Was I in over my head, or was my big head the icing on the cake? Thanks to the team at @latactilelab for hosting a fun Build a Giant Head workshop!

🖌️ ✂️🫟 Two full days of playing with cardboard, chicken wire, paper mache, spray foam and paint brought this vision to life.

❓ FAQ's
👀 Can I see out of it? No but that's OK, I chose the cake life.

⚖️ How heavy is it? 10 lbs!

🎂 What am I going to do with it? It's about the journey, not the destination. Maybe it will be at your next birthday or dinner party.

xoxo

“Give ’em some head,” they keep saying. And so we did. AGAIN.

We did it last year, and we crushed it again this past weekend at @latactilelab, with one more weekend of giant head madness still to come!

I’m honestly dizzy from all the JOY and PLAY that filled the lab this weekend. Helping people bring their wildest giant head dreams to life is a pretty ridiculous and wonderful way to spend a weekend.

Big heads, big ideas, big feelings. More head next weekend! 💗

Shout out to the BEST TEAM EVER. who literally make this possible with me. @svetlanashigroff @kingkongkaia @dingl3berries @ira_zimmerman

If you saw my solo show “WIN,” you know I have a tiny problem:

I try to commoditize my art before I’ve even MADE THE ART. 🫠

What is it?
Where does it go?
Is it a show?
A book?
A business?
Should I sell it?
WHAT IS THE PLAN?!

Lately, I’ve been really working on letting art be art. Creating because I want to create. Making something with absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with it afterward.

I’ve been following @latactilelab and Shitty Craft Club @samreecetv for a while, and I finally made the plunge.

And I went ALONE. Part of the adventure.

Glitter! Baubles! Buttons! Plastic hot dogs! Glue guns! More glitter!

It was an art-making-for-no-reason FANTASY.

I completely lost track of time. I got weird. I got messy. I made chaos into odd little beauty. I was in a true flow state, delighted by the whole ridiculous thing.

No outcome.
No pitch.
No product.
No plan for what comes next.

I made something because making it felt GOOD.

And wow.

I think I needed to remember art gets to be that, too. ✨

When I saw the opportunity to attend a Shitty Craft Club event and get into my creative flow state I didn't hesitate to buy a ticket. I spend so much time around craft supplies but so rarely make anything anymore. And when I do I struggle so much, getting held up by questions like "But what is it for? What am I going to do with it?"

@samreecetv 's Shitty Still Life event was about not overthinking it, and just crafting. And for me, since there was an image source that became even easier because I didn't even have to think about what the inspiration would be. How natural for me though that it was a dog. (IYKYK)

My fingernails are covered in hot glue. And this piece is already hanging on the wall of crafty projects in my office corner. And I took a legally binding oath that said I wouldn't throw it away so this one stays. ✍🏼

PS. If you ever want a room full of millennial women who don't know each to other spontaneously start singing just play Unwritten.

A few spots are still open! for my upcoming workshop, The Value of Things, at LA Tactile Lab!
What do we keep, what do we discard, and how do we decide what has value?
In this mixed-media workshop, we’ll begin with two objects—one meaningful and one discarded, broken, obsolete, or overlooked—and bring them together through wrapping, binding, layering, stitching, wiring, and other processes.
The workshop comes directly out of questions that run through my own practice: our relationships to objects and materials, what they carry, and how meaning and value can shift through transformation.
Come make something with me. 🖤
