I finally glazed these two and thought you should see. They’ve been waiting for this final step since 2023 and having completed them is a relief. Now where will they live? I’m thinking of releasing my work sometime in July but if you see something you must have DM me ✨✨

Side table or stool? I didn’t have a direction as I worked on this pieces for months. To be honest, I was a bit lost in the liminal tumult of my new life and just needed to put my hands on clay. I kept it under plastic for months last winter and just continued to add undulating portions when I needed a moment of only touching clay, not of thinking. Finally this spring, I looked at it and realized it would make a perfect end table next to my new reading chair. It took another few months to glaze it. Now that she’s out of the kiln maybe it’s not only a side table but also a stool. Now I want to make a whole collection of ceramic furniture 🙈 #ceramicfurniture #process #handbuilding #furniture #ceramics by @latch_key

Baby’s first cone 10 reduction. I was invited to participate with @kickwheel.sonoma new gas kiln and wow! I am not mad about deciding to go back to my roots of goopy saturated blues. More to experiments to come ✨

This glaze combo tho 👀

The underside is my absolute favorite. It reminds me of raw gold and the shimmering sand when gentle waves reveal the reflected sun ✨

She’s screaming to be used at a dinner party

It’s important to go off and away from the usual. Which is your favorite? #ceramics #ceramicart #handbuildingwithclay #vessel #interiordesign by @latch_key

Beautiful work in progress by the talented @latch_key.

“My approach to clay is in conversation; a collaboration with the medium itself. Versus dictating form, I acknowledge that both the clay and I have just as much control over the final outcome of the piece. I may have an initial idea in the first stages of building but sometimes the clay will indicate otherwise. It is my duty to see that indication, leading to an exchange of simultaneously pushing against boundaries and honoring them.” Whitney Sharpe (@latch_key)

Drawing inspiration from mythology, nature, and the unknown, Whitney creates ceramics that feel both ancient and contemporary. Foraged by hand, the instinct of clay is of impression; it is the practice of impermanence.
