We’re here for childhood cancer in Wales.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
'I think it's a little bit of breathing space for families. I think physically coming into that room and allowing themselves to shut the door and have half an hour away. And then also, they've been sleeping on a bed that's not theirs, they're stuck in the hospital, they are stressed, they are sore, and it just gives them a minute.

Their muscles are tense, they’re under incredible emotional strain, and their nervous system is all jacked up because they're constantly in a state of stress. I can't fix that, but I can give their body and their mind a little space. Feeling like I make a small, a tiny, tiny difference to just their day is a nice thing.' - Julie, Massage Therapist

Julie, alongside Virginia, are the practitioners who make up Latch's feel good Friday's offering. The two provide relaxation and a space to switch off for families currently undergoing treatment on Rainbow Ward to help support the overall wellbeing of families, so they can focus on their treatment journey's.

There are many different ways to be here for childhood cancer, and one many families can attest to is the importance of food during tough moments.

Having to think about what you need to buy from the supermarket, how long you'll need to be away from your child, parking, all while your child receives treatment can be overwhelming, and lead to parents not eating.

You can help by donating to the Latch food pantry from the link below, making sure food is available when it's needed

'At 15 weeks old, our brave little boy was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Spinal Cord Tumour. Luca's tumour is entwined within his spinal cord, therefore deemed inoperable. The days that followed are a blur, filled with tests, difficult conversations and tears. There is one memory that will always stay with us and that is the words spoken by Luca's Oncologist “he may only have weeks, maybe months left to live, but we are not talking years.” In the blink of an eye, the future we had planned was torn away.'

We were pleased to join yesterday's Cross-Party Group (CPG) on Cancer Senedd Reception at the Pierhead, Senedd Cymru.

The reception, sponsored by Matthew Jones MS, looked back at the Cross-Party Group’s work in the Sixth Senedd and gave a look ahead to the Group’s priorities for the new Senedd Term.

The event also recognised the contribution of the Wales Cancer Alliance, which helps to connect the Group to the issues and opportunities facing people, including children and young people, affected by cancer in Wales.

Thank you to Members of the Senedd who made the time to join the event and learn about the work of the Cross-Party Group, the Wales Cancer Alliance, and the charities who were there, including Latch.

Thank you also to Matthew Jones MS, Chair of the Cross-Party Group, Cancer Research UK, (CPG's secretariat) for arranging the reception, and to the speakers, including Members of the Senedd, people with lived experience of cancer, policy experts and charities.

One message was loud and clear from the event – the shared ambition to see better outcomes for all people affected by cancer in Wales. by @latchwales

Diolch a llongyfarchiadau!

Thankyou to each and every runner who took on the Cardiff Half in aid of Latch yesterday! We are so incredibly proud of all the work you did, and thankful to have such dedicated members of the Latch community!

Taking on a half marathon is no mean feat, and takes months of dedicated training and effort, countless steps over hundreds of miles, and a commitment to completing the challenge you’ve taken on. Each and everyone of you should be incredibly proud of yourselves, no matter what time you crossed the line in.

From everyone here at Latch, thank you! 💜

A big thankyou to @albanyroad.baptistchurch for your continued support! Your empathy and compassion in helping support Latch for the past 10 years is so wonderful, and we are so grateful for all of your efforts in helping to make Latch Corner a Cardiff Half staple, and a wonderful place for all to come and celebrate the amazing event!

Thankyou as well to @wendy_hopkins_flp and @jettscardiffstmellons for their support for our post race event, and Thomas, Freddie and Erin from Cardiff Met’s Sport Rehabilitation and Massage department for supplying the much needed massages to our runners!

And finally, thank you to everyone who turned out to support on the side lines and cheer on the runners with everything you had to help give them a lift to keep going and cross the finish line, the Cardiff Half wouldn’t be the incredible event it is without you! 💜 by @latchwales

A huge congratulations to Mia and Oliver on this well-deserved recognition. Their remarkable courage is an inspiration, and we couldn't be prouder of them.

We're equally proud of all the children we support, each of who shows extraordinary courage every day.

We would like to extend our thanks to @selhassanplaid for her statement in the Senedd yesterday, and for drawing attention to the needs and difficulties of families facing childhood cancer.

We are so pleased to see members of the Senedd taking this issue with the level of care that it deserves, and hope that changes in the support offered by the government to families will soon follow.

Childhood cancer affects hundreds of families each year around Wales, and dedicated support and policies will help ensure no family has to go through this journey alone

Emmy-Nominated Actor Gerran Howell Joins Forces with Latch as Official Charity Partner!

"I’m really pleased to be partnering with Latch. Childhood cancer has been part of my family’s story, so the work they do means a great deal to me. The practical and emotional support they provide to children and families in Wales can make a real difference at an incredibly difficult time, and I’m looking forward to helping more people learn about their work and supporting their fundraising however I can.”
