Hand-cut sugarcane. Silkie chicken. Binchotan fire.
The sugarcane skewer is Mozambique. The pikliz is Haiti. The chadon beni is Trinidad. The silkie traveled both the African diaspora and the East Asian spice routes.
That’s the African diaspora in one bite — served Wednesday night at the James Beard House to 150 JBF Patron members as Course Zero of Obsidian Blade.
Obsidian Blade is the inaugural Late Reservations SupperClub dinner — an Afro-Samurai inspired Kaiseki honoring the legacy of Yasuke, the first documented African samurai in feudal Japan.
Every course is a chapter. Every plate is a panel.
The full dinner is coming this fall. The Kickstarter launches this summer.
The resistance is already cooking.

Wednesday night at the James Beard House — 150 JBF Patron members tasted the world of PROJECT//SYNESTHESIA for the first time.
The full dinner is called Obsidian Blade. It’s coming this fall.
