We’ve been so grateful for the thoughtful response to ‘Erick Víquez: A Los Animales Los Mata el Sol’ over the past month at Laundromat Art Space.Join us for the closing reception tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8, from 6–8 PM.Drawing from photographic archives and vernacular histories, Víquez’s paintings inhabit a rural landscape marked by distance, silence, and lingering tension. In these works, the tropics emerge not as a site of abundance, but as a psychologically charged space where memory and atmosphere shape the image as much as the landscape itself.Erick VíquezUntitled, 2026Oil on paper mounted on board24.5 × 18.5 inWe’d love to see you there!Photos by @iaiamb by @laundromatartspace

Welcoming our summer residents Yanira López (@yaniralopezart) & Alexis Oliva (@alexisolivaart) Yanira Lopez (YaLo) is a Cuban multidisciplinary artist. Her work moves fluidly between textiles, installation and socially rooted research. Her artistic foundations were laid early at the Juan Pablo Duarte Art academy in Havana. While studying communications at the university of Havana she began rigorous research into Cuban syncretism and its expressions across art, religion and folklore - a thread that would continue to inform her practice._Alexis Oliva (aoa) is a multidisciplinary artist born in Havana, Cuba currently based in South Florida.Alexis work explores themes of resilience, displacement and the societal impact of systems of power. He attended Havana’s University majoring in English language. In 1997, shortly after graduating he migrated to the USA.His current work engages with modernist abstraction and the formal language of Cuban graphic design from the 1960s and ’70s, reimagined through a contemporary lens. His work is inspired by architecture, focusing on precarious apartment buildings in Havana as potent metaphors for human endurance. by @laundromatartspace
