Chicago, you were something else. Tbh, I’m still catching my breath. 🩵🤍❤️

A new marathon PR: 4:19:17! 🎉 On a day every bit as hot and difficult as we’d feared.

We started under yellow flag conditions, and before long, the flags had turned red. The sun was relentless, the miles were hard, and somehow, I absolutely loved this race.

We started our morning in the corrals with members of our Atlanta Track Club run family. Then I got to spend 26.2 miles with my favorite pacer, forever eye candy, and number one hype man. ❤️

And Chicago! What a course. What a city. The race started with a bang! Under the first overpass, an absolute rave was underway—complete with lasers, smoke, and DJs blaring music loud enough to shake the earth.

The Frontrunners cheer station in Lakeview around mile 9 was another early highlight. I mean, can you imagine anyone better suited to hype up a bunch of runners than a drag queen? I didn’t think so. 💃

The miles that followed brought incredible crowd support, a parade of Chicago’s neighborhoods, and more heat, humidity, and SUN ☀️. And then…

PILSEN. 🔥

Around mile 19, I was at a crossroads: keep pushing or start fading. Just when I thought I might fade, we hit Pilsen. The music, the cheering, the sheer ENERGY! Suddenly I was reminding myself to slow down.

Of course, the marathon eventually collected its dues. Sometime after mile 21, Dave and I were deep in the pain cave. Then, as if on cue, we heard a voice from behind: “Dave! Dave!… Daaaaaaave!!!”

Our run brother Patrick showed up to save the day. I told him I was pretty much done pushing. Patrick had other plans. 😂

With Dave and Patrick beside me, I found another gear. We pushed through those final miles, crossed the finish line together, and celebrated a new personal best. There may have been a few tears.

So, here’s to the friends who train beside you, the strangers who cheer you on, and the ones who show up just when you need them most.

Chicago, thank you for an unforgettable 26.2. I’ll be back. ❤️ taken in Chicago, Illinois by @laura.a.lu

🏃‍♀️ Chicago, we’re coming for you! 🩵🤍❤️

Another marathon training block in the books! The hay is in the barn, the bags are packed, and tomorrow Dave and I are off to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Marathon.

Getting to this starting line, though, has been a journey.

This has been one of our tougher training seasons. Between a particularly brutal Atlanta summer and life throwing a few curveballs our way, neither of us has been able to prioritize training quite the way we’d hoped. Dave’s been juggling some mega demands at work, while much of my time and energy these past few months went toward caring for our sweet senior pup, Charlie, through his many health challenges. Losing him just two weeks ago has made these final weeks especially difficult.

But we kept showing up. Maybe not for every workout, and certainly not always at our best, but we kept putting one foot in front of the other.

And we couldn’t have done it without our @atlantatrackclub In-Training family. Through the heat, the humidity, the early mornings, the long miles, and all the ups and downs of this season, you’ve been there beside us. I’m reminded again and again that the greatest gift running has given us isn’t the race results or the finish lines. It’s the people we get to share the miles with. ❤️

I’m choosing to believe Sunday will be another testament to consistency over perfection. And if this less-than-ideal training block has a silver lining, it’s that Dave has decided to run alongside me through the streets of Chicago. My favorite running buddy, travel princess, and hype man, right there with me for 26.2 miles. I intend to enjoy every minute of his company (well, maybe not EVERY minute!).

So let’s go! Forty-some-odd fellow Atlanta Track Club runners, one of the greatest marathons in the world, and a forecast that’s looking a little too close to home.

You know what? We’ve spent months training in the heat. Now it’s time to bring a little of our own. 🔥 by @laura.a.lu

✨ Forty. 💖

What a night.

Saturday was everything I hoped my 40th birthday celebration would be: delicious food, fantastic drinks, and a room full of the people I love most. I spent the entire evening laughing with friends, making new memories, and feeling unbelievably grateful.

To my incredible husband, @davefromatlanta — and my marathon wifey 👯‍♀️, @jasminseverino4 — thank you for planning the most perfect celebration. It was truly everything I hoped it would be.

And to Eddie @pockitfilm — thank you for capturing it all so beautifully. I am a spectacularly bad millennial when it comes to remembering to take photos, and because of you I got to be fully present instead of worrying about documenting every moment.

Finally, to everyone who came out, sent birthday wishes, or raised a glass from afar—thank you. I don’t take this community or these friendships for granted, and I feel incredibly lucky to have celebrated this milestone surrounded by so much love.

Forty is off to a pretty wonderful start. 💖

P.S. I sure didn’t have stumbling into a random EDM festival on my birthday bingo card, but thanks to the final few who stayed out late and danced the night away with me! 🎶🕺💃🪩🎇

🍑 Medal Monday, but make it Triathlon Barbie. 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Yesterday, I ran as usual… but first I swam… and then I biked. And just like that, I became a triathlete.

A little over a month ago, my mischievous younger run-sister @fabiolahoyo preyed upon my well-documented susceptibility to peer pressure and convinced me to sign up for the Georgia Peach Women’s Sprint Triathlon—something I’d made the mistake of expressing interest in on some long run or another. (To be fair… it didn’t take much convincing.) There’s really nothing quite like a women’s race, and I knew it would be the perfect place to try something completely new.

We didn’t have much time to train. I hadn’t been in a pool (except perhaps to cool off between summer beers 🍻) in at least 15 years, and while I owned a very nice road bike, I’d barely ridden it. It was a rocky road to the start line… much less the finish!

Yet somehow, between Domestique @davefromatlanta patient tutelage on the bike (shout out to my Triathlon Husband™), a handful of hours in the pool, fantastic beginner clinics from @atlantatriathlonclub, and a healthy dose of stubborn determination… it all came together.

Not only did I finish my first triathlon, but somehow, I found myself standing on the podium with a third-place finish in my age group and 31st overall. Was it a small, beginner-friendly race? Absolutely. Am I still ridiculously proud of it? Also absolutely.

The icing on the cake was that race day happened to fall on Coach Bob’s birthday @kapowbamboom - Bob has spent years believing in athletes long before they believe in themselves, and I’m certainly one of them. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate someone who’s helped so many of us chase big, scary goals than by saying yes to one of my own.

Here’s to new adventures, being brave enough to be a beginner again, and rediscovering that maybe I’m capable of even more than I thought.

I have a feeling this tri won’t be my last. 💖 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️ taken in Lake Lanier Olympic Park by @laura.a.lu

✨ Happy birthday to my Dave! Dave! Dave!!! (The three exclamation points remain, and always will be, mandatory.)

I don’t always post for birthdays, but I’d be remiss not to take a moment to celebrate the guy who makes my life so much fun—and who is so incredibly easy to celebrate.

This year has been a big one. You worked tirelessly to continue building a wonderful life for us, somehow found enough patience and love to help our sweet Charlie Bear navigate a cancer diagnosis (and all the indignities that come with being an old dog), and through it all, you never stopped being the biggest cheerleader for every wild idea I dreamed up.

You took me to Berlin to run another World Marathon Major. You sent me to Tokyo to chase yet another star ⭐️ — sacrificing your own trip to stay home with the pups to make my dream possible. You… were *briefly* put in timeout for adopting our sweet princess Mochi while I was gone. 😂🐶👑 Then, because apparently marathon training alone wasn’t enough excitement for our household, you fully embraced your new role as Domestique Dave / Triathlon Husband™—hauling bikes to clinics before sunrise, patiently teaching me how to ride, pulling into the wind so I’d have someone handsome to chase, and somehow making me believe I could do something that felt impossible just a couple of months ago.

As we sit here watching the Tour de France and dreaming about standing on a mountainside in the Alps one day—cheering on the peloton with pastries in one hand and wine in the other—I can’t help but smile thinking about all the adventures still ahead of us. Chicago this fall. London next spring. Finishing our six World Marathon Majors together. Cycling through the Alps… And whatever wonderfully ridiculous idea we come up with after that.

Thank you for being my favorite running buddy, my travel princess, my domestique, the world’s greatest dog dad, my handsome bike mechanic (who insisted his queen deserved a fancier bike even than his), and the person who makes ordinary Tuesdays watching Le Tour feel just as special as adventures halfway around the world.

You are my greatest adventure.

Happy birthday, my love. ❤️😘 by @laura.a.lu

✨ Happy birthday to the very best of husbands and humans. My best friend, my partner in life, my adventure buddy (and travel princess 👑). My favorite person to explore the world with—or crash on the couch with, buried under two rescue pups who have zero concept of personal space.

My golden retriever of a man—tall, handsome, and the biggest goofball around. You’ve never met a stranger, only friends you didn’t know about yet. You’re the life of the party, the ultimate hype man, and the kind of person who makes everything—from the Berlin Marathon to a Netflix marathon—way more fun.

You’ve built us a beautiful life with your hard work, big heart, and just enough chaos to keep me eternally entertained. There’s no one I’d rather nag about unfinished house projects, no one I’d rather run around the world with (literally), and no one else I’d rather adopt one too many dogs with.

So cheers to you, my “Dave! Dave! Dave!” (yes, the exclamation point is absolutely required). Here’s to another year of adventures, big goals, great meals, dog cuddles, and you being my very favorite human. ❤️

Let’s run it back! 🏃‍♀️We came, we ran, we ate bagels 🥯🥯🥯. New York City 🏙️🍎, you did not disappoint. Running the NYC Marathon has been a dream over two years in the making. It wasn’t my fastest, but it *was* the most fun I’ve ever had running a marathon, and maybe the most fun I’ve ever had running ever 🤩. And with the challenging training season I’ve had this time around, I’m pretty dang thrilled with a second fastest marathon time 🥰.

I’m so stinking proud of my #1 guy @davefromatlanta for his big PR in the big apple 🍎. I had an absolute blast traipsing around manhattan before the race with our running fam Patrick (@walnutgeneparmesan) and Alec. I got the best pep talks from @nicoleafuller and @noblewaj the night before the race. Mad thanks to @tinaatl and Jessica for last minute words of wisdom shared on the bus to Staten Island in the wee hours of the morning. I’m beyond grateful @tarahstio found me on the queensboro bridge and kept me company for a few tough late miles. I got to hear my bro-in-law’s booming voice at mile 25.5 and have celebratory martinis with my bestie at a fancy steakhouse after the race. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.

Thanks most of all to the very best coach and friend Bob💥 and my entire ATC in-training family, who make running such a joy each and every week.

NYC Marathon was everything I’d heard/ hoped it would be and more. Pure heckin’ magic 💖✨ I will be back. And I already can’t wait. by @laura.a.lu
