I guess being absent is my new normal. Mostly creating one concept per month thanks to the people on my Patreon page. So if you enjoy seeing this, thank them 🙏🏻 Because without them my camera would get really dusty as I am busy renovating, preparing talks/workshops, and in all honesty doubting if I need to switch to a job that feel less needless to me. Recently more than ever I admire the people who do work that makes the world a better place. So many of them for too little or no money.
I guess that really is the main reason why I don't shoot or post much. It feels so irrelevant. It probably always was... Maybe i am just growing up. But hey at least i still know how to be too honest online. That's something. Also i don't want to sound whiny. Life is mostly pretty fine. Despite feeling like I lost that one thing i thought is defining me most. Love for photography. What a luxury problem but it still breakes my heart a bit 💔 #oopsthatwasdramatic

Last year during @tanzherbst.kempten with talented dancer @chebbihazem in a parking garage and out in the rain. No plan, just an hour of exploring the streets and the opportunities together in joyful, creative freedom.

Still a little surreal to see my name in this list.

fotoMAGAZIN and an amazing jury selected 50 living photographers who, in their view, are shaping contemporary photography in Germany, and somehow, I’m one of them.

Seeing my name alongside photographers whose work has influenced, inspired or accompanied me for years is pretty crazy.

Nanne Heitmann, Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Nikita Teryoshin, Wolfgang Tillmans, Ellen von Unwerth and Wim Wenders to only name a few 😲⚡

Quite astonished, and very grateful to be included in this selection.

Had such a beautiful vernissage at @fotopark.forchheim yesterday alongside amazing people. So good to finally meet some of them and finally meet some again.

The series I showed is entirely shot in nature therefore it felt so right to show it placed in nature. Seeing the light changing within the minute made it quite special.

It also felt so good to see peoples reactions in real life instead of with screens in between us, and it was a very good reminder to show behind-the-scenes more often as people struggle to believe I actually climbed all those rocks and trees 🪨🪾

What a joy and honor to be invited to show my work in this way and a good motivation to aim for (big) prints more. taken in Fotopark Forchheim by @laurazalenga

Such a pleasure to meet @camilla__melani and @ethan_kzo during @tanzherbst.kempten to create together⚡

Feels like finding a location, verbalizing a vage idea and watching it come to life through the bodies of dancing humans way of expressing their interpretation is magic.

I am crazy excited and definitely also nervous for my first-ever conceptual solo exhibition in Germany: Ulm, September 17th, 7 pm.
(It will be running till 11th of October.)

I’ll be exhibiting at the incredibly special 'Galerie Sebastianskapelle' and showing the most vulnerable body of work I’ve created so far.

A lot of these pieces were made this year and have never been shown anywhere before.
So if you’re in the Ulm area on September 17th, come by, have a look, and say hi. I’d love to see you there.

The joy of self-portraiture *Advertising*

People often ask me if photographing a concept as a self-portrait isn’t just making things harder.

And I love that question because it invites me to talk about the joy and freedom of self-portraiture, and why today it often isn't more difficult than photographing others anymore.
For me, self-portraiture is not about showing “Laura” in the photos. It is about complete creative freedom: becoming part of my own concepts, experimenting without hesitation and photographing spontaneously.

I got to test the new Sony Alpha 7R VI, and several features make creating even more enjoyable now. For example, the 66.8 MP resolution (even with fast continuous shooting!) gives me freedom to create really large exhibition prints and to discover entirely new images through cropping. The even further improved autofocus allows me to trust the camera blindly, forget about it at times and fully immerse myself in the concept.

I included some behind-the-scenes and more insights into my process in the slides' captions. If you have any questions about creating self-portraits, feel free to ask away :)

One of the things I love about high resolution: discovering new images within an image by being able to crop in massively.

A little glimpse behind the scenes. If you look closely you can see me using my phone with the Creators' App as a remote control.

The finished photograph 🦐

A moving idea turned into a still image. Capturing at up to 30fps (at 66.8MP) giving me the freedom to choose the exact moment I imagined.

My camera is a silent companion in these moments allowing me to fully focus on concept, mood and body language.

Another reason why I like self-portraits: I don’t need to ask others to crawl into tiny holes covered in spiderwebs, be stuck and hit their head hard trying to get out 😅

Amazed by the tools that exist today. Especially when I think about the struggle it was when I started out: 10 seconds timer and running back and forth between camera and location 🫠 by @laurazalenga

Four artworks by @laurazalenga are now available as fine art prints with YellowKorner.

Working with self-portraiture as a conceptual tool, Laura Zalenga uses the human body as a physical and emotional manifestation of coalescence within her surroundings. Emerging from a background in architecture, her images are built around carefully balanced spatial relationships. Her body is not chosen for its identity, but as a tool to showcase an abstractable, vulnerable form of fusion with sand, stone, bark or skin.

Shot in Hawaii, Tenerife, and the Netherlands, this series explore moments of quiet exploration between control and surrender, protection and exposure. Rather than illustrating emotion, the photographs create situations in which viewers sense the physicality of interaction.

Contemporary photography that reflects on how we position ourselves in relation to the world around us.

Back from another great Sony Kando trip – and yes, of course I found a tree to blend into 🌳✨
My self-portrait-series keeps growing: pieces about how to blend into nature.

To give you a sense of the setting, I included a location-outtake of what I saw when I arrived at the scene. And if you swipe all the way to the end, you’ll see a flash version (big thanks to @steffenkugler for the support and insights with this one!).

I’m quite curious: Do we have some flash-lovers here who prefer the version with artificial light? 🤔
