The girls both brought with them a small sum of spending money to use on our trip overseas.
They carefully chose the souvenirs they wished to bring home as we wandered through the Italian streets.
She spotted this cuckoo clock on the shelf of a small toy shop in Assisi and committed most of her money to it, despite it requiring hours of assembly.
Over this past week, it has been a joy watching her carefully put it together, often arising before dawn to work on it, before she begins her school day.
The attention to detail this project has required can't help but cement this memory firmly in her mind. While she remembers the place where it came from as she creates, she will also forever recall that place when she sees it sitting on her shelf. by @laurelmuff

As Pope Leo XIV closes the final Holy Door today to mark the end of the Jubilee Year of Hope, I’m taking a moment to look back at the enormous blessing of being able to walk through all 4 Holy Doors with my family this past November. I had no idea at the beginning of 2025 that this would even be a possibility.
But God.
He had a huge gift in store for us to wrap up 2025. A reminder to always keep hope alive in your heart. 🤍

Scenes of December thus far. ✨

I don’t have anything relevant or quippy or catching for you.
Just ordinary moments of a December that I have found difficult to revel in.
When grief has been one inch beneath the surface.
But here…here are a few break-through moments—moments of joy.
For these I am grateful. ❤️ by @laurelmuff

Oh my dear friend, you are now at peace after so much suffering.

I miss you so much already. 💔

Thank you for the beautiful couple of weeks we had together last year. What a delight to explore the natural beauty of this world with our families and to stay up late into the evening with our husbands, pouring out our hearts to each other. I will never forget the gift of those days.

The Lord had plans for this year that were bigger than ours — but I cling to faith and hope as I have witnessed you do. Your race has finished, while ours continues.

I praise God for the gift of your life and that our time on this earth had a chance to intertwine.

Sing with the angels, Meghan. ✝️

Seven Quick Takes on this Fall Friday! 🍁
Join us!

#sevenquicktakes #fridayintroductions #1000hoursoutside

1. Embracing the gray. I have this lovely streak coming in and I think I’m just going to welcome and enjoy this life transition, rather than reject it by covering it up. 🤍
2. On a similar note, I’ve been on the struggle bus with clothing lately. Not many things from previous years fit me as I pulled out my fall/winter clothing bins this month. This season of life is coming along with many surprises and fluctuations, but I’m aiming to see it as an opportunity to update my wardrobe (while also reminding myself that it’s important to be gentle and care for myself too). 💃
3. These new liquid highlighters have been a super fun addition to my makeup routine this week. Just enough glow to brighten a tired face and not at all glittery. ✨
4. Here for the final hurrah of the summer garden! The cosmos always like to show off at this time of year. 🌸
5. Loving to see where others art inspires my children. This week: a book introduced to us by Read Aloud Revival had my daughter rushing outside to find fall leaves and create her own picture in kind. 🍂
6. Pumpkins! We went on our annual trip to the patch with friends and found the perfect pumpkins to grace our porch. 🎃
7. Last practice of the soccer season was graced with the most beautiful sunset. Didn’t want the evening to end. ⚽️ by @laurelmuff

They’re not much — they’re tiny, but mighty! — but we held off the squash bugs this year. 💪🏻
Counting this a victory for our harvest! 🎃

Hi, friends!
Jumping in real quick at the tail end of a busy day to join in my friend, @stephanieweinert 's revival of #sevenquicktakes & #sevenquicktakesfriday !
A worthy endeavor bringing back the humanity and goodness of Internet days past. 💕

1. I'm still reveling in the joy of the time spent with my daughter on our annual yarn crawl this fall. This year, it happened on a week that was hard and heavy, and was a great reminder of the necessity of meeting people face-to-face and working real things with our hands to ground us and remind us of what truly matters in life.

2. I cast on my first knitting project in over a year this week from the yarn I purchased on the crawl. Making a Christmas stocking for a dear friend's little one and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

3. We went on our one and only family camping trip this year to the coast this past weekend. It was glorious and wonderful, and we made sure to eat our fill of all the oysters at our fav coastal cafe too.

4. I'm not the greatest at gardening. But I love it! I get so excited to see things grow! I have a particularly difficult time with pumpkins, as the squash bugs always seem to attack the plants right near harvest time. I've been well armed with insecticidal soap this year and have kept a close eye on the plants. We have one particularly large pumpkin that is starting to turn orange and I am oh so hopeful this year....!

5. We are in the thick of 1000 hours outside this year for the 6th year in a row. We've only accomplished it the first year, but I strongly suspect we will be successful this year again. I love this habit we have built. (We're at 865 hours and counting...cheer us on!!)

6. I have loved watching my youngest on the soccer pitch this fall. She's spent the past few years on more of a comp training team, but we're back enjoying the slower pace of rec soccer, which means Saturday games again. She's been killing it as goalie and midfield. Can't slow this girl down.

7. Speaking of early Internet days, I used to create recipes and food blog way back when. Time morphed into me teaching my girls what I knew in the kitchen. Now, they are the ones getting creative in the kitchen. 😭 by @laurelmuff

After a fairly mild summer, August has been a scorcher in our neck of the woods. Cooler mornings have been elusive. The heat has been oppressive even after the sun has gone down.

Being stuck inside for days on end is not our idea of fun. The natives have been restless…and then some.

The slightest break, one morning earlier this week, had us eagerly packing up our bags and heading to our favorite, local coffee house with the perfect patio for reading and nature study alike. We sipped iced chais and matcha, read of medieval quests, and sketched the black eyed susans blooming in the planters.

Grateful to be able to fill our cups (literally and figuratively!) in this way. And for a brief respite in the midst of the heat and struggles through finding an equilibrium in a new school year. taken in The Pour Choice by @laurelmuff

Despite being late to the game for summer planting this year, the zinnias haven’t failed to produce a good show. 🌸
They never fail to be the easiest and most resilient of all the flowers I’ve planted in my garden.
