We're halfway through July, and I'm wondering how many people know that this is #DisabilityPrideMonth! Since the beginning of the (still very much ongoing 😘) pandemic, I have learned so much about #disability and #disabilityjustice. I have also seen how little attention is given/effort is put forth on behalf of disabled people as opposed to, quite frankly, EVERY other cause. Sorry! I gotta call it as I see it!

My personal theory regarding this imbalance is twofold. First, I unfortunately don't think people view caring about disability as being as "sexy" or "dynamic" as caring about other causes (again, sorry! but I think I'm right! 🤷‍♀️). Secondly, I think people have an underlying fear of disability because, on some unconscious level, they are aware that it is a demographic that any of us can join at any time. Not only that; if we are lucky enough to live to old age, we WILL join it! One thing that I think The Youths™️ get right is referring to themselves as "pre-disabled," which is factually true for all of us should we live long enough.

Masking in essential public spaces (grocery/drug stores; public transportation; etc.) is a small thing we can do to proactively support disabled people *and* reduce our own chances of becoming disabled/increasingly disabled on an accelerated timeline due to Long Covid, which is a mass disabling event. I hope you'll consider doing it for the remainder of Disability Pride Month! ♿️

This little dude had THE TIME OF HIS LIFE at yesterday's monthly #covidconscious meetup!! We hadn't been to one since before his liver biopsy and he was clearly very happy to be back; he had a waggy tail for almost the entire time 🥹 Here are some pics (the first one is my new favorite photo of him), including a now obligatory "picture where he looks high af" 😂 Someone there had a cool little camera that instantaneously printed out black-and-white pictures using a laser, so now Pierro even has a photo that looks like the ones they take at LAX when you're re-entering the country! Also, please ignore the visible grass on his tongue in some of these; he was, in fact, eating grass 🙃 Happy #pridemonth, everybody! 🏳️‍🌈

#WorldMaskWeek is almost over, but I spent this whole week promoting @slay_thebeast's virtual concert (which went SO well yesterday - thank you to everyone who came! 🙏), so this is the first chance I've had to post! Remaining #covidconscious and masking to protect myself and others has become a huge part of my life these past 6+ years; so much so that the vast majority of what I now do socially, creatively, etc. is with fellow maskers 😷 I don't expect to change anybody's mind about the importance of masking, but I *have* inserted factoid slides in between pictures of me having fun while masked because hope springs eternal! ✨️ One of the core tenets of #MaskWeek2026 is trying to get folks who have stopped masking to start doing it again at "The Big 3" (stores, mandatory appointments, and public transit), because these are places that even the most vulnerable among us cannot avoid. So I hope that my friends reading this will at least consider masking up again in those specific circumstances! It's a small ask that can greatly benefit not only medically vulnerable people, but our communities in general 💗 Knowing what I now know about chronic illness/disability justice, I anticipate continuing to mask at places like these even if we do eventually get sterilizing vaccines and/or Covid ever "goes away" (lololollllll). Please consider protecting yourself and others, and thanks for reading!
