We were handed lemon after lemon this year, but what you should know about me: I know how to make lemon bars. I crafted an unforgettable 2025 for myself, turning sour notes into sweet and satisfying memories.

My adventures of 2025 started in Japan, then led me to Portland, OR to visit @emilyelaineedit. I cruised the Mediterranean from Greece to Turkey. And I reintroduced myself to New York City.

Sure, the troubles didn’t disappear. In fact, new ones appeared. And there are some that are never going to get better. Like, ever.

But I had a marvelous time!

PS life is short. Pet all the cats.

Munich Part Zwei.

#Munich #münchen #bavaria #germany

Bavaria Statue! She is the embodiment of the state of Bavaria, completed in 1850 and designed by Ludwig Schwanthaler, and for a small fee you can go inside! Though there are seats for six people, they only allow three at a time, and really, my one was enough.

It’s the climb!

#Bavariastatue

And behind her, the Hall of Fame, with busts of people with outstanding service to their country. Built from 1843 to 1853 at the behest of King Ludwig I, it was badly damaged in WWII. Rebuilt from 1965 to 1972, additions have also been made, including four women of the 98. Woohoo! 4.

#therecanbemore

The Munich Residenz was the home of Bavarian dukes, electors, and kings from 1508 to 1918 and the seat of government. Improved upon by its various rulers, it is now an extensive palatial museum. It was heavily damaged during World War II, and has been reconstructed, though many of the rooms are devoid of furniture that would have once sat in them.

Ancestral Gallery with over 100 portraits of the Wittelsbach family.

I fit right in.

Above: porcelain cabinet
Below: Audience room

Ornate rooms

The Yellow Staircase, flanked by Justice and Perseverance, for King Ludwig I, as a grand entrance to the King‘s apartment.

Above: Green Gallery
Below: Mirror cabinet

Imperial Hall, built at the beginning of the 17th century under Maximilian I.

Antiquarium - the oldest room in the Residenz, built from 1568 to 1571 for Duke Albrecht V’s collection of antique sculptures.

Duke Wilhelm V succeeded Albrecht and transformed it into a banquet hall.

One man’s Antiquarium is another man’s banquet hall.

Old Court Chapel is a two story chapel, with court members worshipping down below, while the ruling family did so from the upper gallery.

This deserves to live on my page: paying homage to the incomparable @julieandrews in “The Sound of Music”!

There wasn’t time on my guided tour of Salzburg four years ago, when all I wanted was to reenact these moments, so thank you @rvannorden for supporting me this go around! And for insisting that WAS the right stone statue you spotted in the dark of the Mirabell gardens. 😂

More than 60 years on, the city still draws in people doing the exact same thing I was. Turns out, you don’t need to solve a problem like Maria. You can BE Maria. She was never the problem.

PS I did have to loop that clip at the end to match the length of the music. We do what we must! taken in Salzburg, Austria by @laurenmora

Me: What if we went to Salzburg for the weekend?
Rob: we can absolutely do that.

Reader, we did! It was glorious. Even if he didn’t want to hold my hands at the “16 going on 17” “Sound of Music” gazebo. 😂 (Why do my male friends baulk at holding my hands?? I’m getting flashbacks @jeffvictorart 🤣).

#salzburg #austria #SoundofMusic

Mirabell Gardens

Did I jump forwards and backwards on these steps? Yes. Yes I did.

And I was far from the only one!

#Hohensalzburg Fortress

Ooh what a view! 😍

Hohensalzburg Fortress from the ground, and St. Peter’s Cemetery below.

St. Peter’s

Mini death

Also in life-size!

When in Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, you go to a concert!

This one was inside Hohensalzburg fortress with outstanding views of the city below.

Found food and friends!

I’m not saying you have to rent a bike, but if you don’t, you’ll regret it.

#Hellbrunn Palace

Home of the trick fountains!

The Prince archbishop of Salzburg who had them built between 1612 to 1615, relished in surprising his guests, which they no doubt were as they sat at the table and water spouted from the center of their seats. What a guy!

#trickfountains

But on this scorcher of a day, I embraced it!

Munich Part One.

Co-starring: @rvannorden as friend who lives here.

#Munich #münchen #marienplatz #bavaria #germany

Marienplatz

Inside!

We’ve been riding broomsticks all wrong.

Rob as: 🤔

Frauenkirche! She towers above the rest.

Hey there she is in stained glass form!

Peterskirche

Marienplatz from above!

Inside Peterskirche is Saint Munditia, patron saint of single women and spinsters. This diva is encased in a glass box with her skeleton enrobed in jewels and gold.

Down to her toes!

The nave of Peterskirche

Frauenkirche may be the largest gal in town, but her interior is decidedly more sparse.

AND THEN….there is Asamkirche!

Behold! Where the money was spent

So close München, but Lauren is spelled with an ‘e.’

Meanwhile the Juliet statue got a free exam, and I got some good luck!

Statue of Bavaria. She was closed for the day by the time we got there, but I vowed to return!

The Eisbachwelle is enthralling entertainment! Surfers line either side of the river and take turns as soon as someone bails out. The second guy 🤣🤣🤣

Berlin is a city that has SEEN SOME THINGS. Its history includes the fall of a republic, the rise of fascism, the arrest/torture/murder of its own citizens, bombings, occupation by 4 different countries simultaneously, and eventual reunification.

But to see it now, thriving with its scars on full display, it is a reminder of hope, and the epitome of “this too shall pass.”

#Berlin #Germany #solotravel

The Bundestag! It’s the German parliament, with its impressive glass dome. And they let you take a free tour if you register in advance.

The crosses next to the River Spree are for those who were murdered here trying to flee East Germany, mostly between 1961-1965.

The dome was completed in 1999 and houses what I like to think of as a mirrored tornado, with twin helix shaped ramps (one for the ascent, and the other for the descent) spiraling like an onion peel around it.

#bundestag

For the German People!

Hot tip: go on a Sunday when parliament is not in session. They allow you a seat at the table!

Brandenburg Tor (tor is gate in deutsch!) was constructed between 1788 and 1791 at the behest of King Frederick William II to conclude the Unter den Linden Boulevard. The chariot pulled by four horses was added two years later.

#brandenburgtor

Known as Three Girls and a Boy, these statues were sculpted in 1988 for a fountain outside of a hotel, but when that was demolished in 2001 they were put in storage, and eventually installed along the riverbank in 2007.

The sobering Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

Berliner Dom (cathedral), and statue dedicated to Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn (who? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂 I don’t know everyone)

Berliner Dom was constructed between 1894 and 1905. It was heavily damaged during World War II. Repair work didn’t begin until 1975, and it was finally reopened in 1993.

If you take a cruise down the river, and I highly suggest you do, the guide will point out the bullet holes that are noticeably visible along the outer walls.

#Berlinerdom

A lot of love here, and the most determined drag queen who climbed all 285 stufen of the Victory Column in heels and a sequined dress! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Serenity is a circular walk around any given lake in the Lake District (you really can’t go wrong), strolling past freely grazing sheep and cows paying you no mind, sitting on a bench/rock/pillar to take in the sights/sounds/smells of the waters/birds/fresh air. Cumbrians, you lucky 🦆 🦆

The time I climbed Lough Rigg Fell (probably pronouncing that wrong) in the Lake District! It felt like forever, but only 29 minutes lapsed from the first video I took, to the one at the summit 😂. But I know what I felt! And my feelings are valid. I took 29,757 steps that day and climbed the equivalent of 94 floors! But the views really were worth it.

The Lake District in England is home to 16 major bodies of water, though only one is officially called a lake, with the rest being named meres, waters, and tarns. Save that for pub trivia!

I visited:
•Derwentwater (next to the town of Keswick)
•Buttermere
•Grasmere (Poet William Wordsworth is buried here and their gingerbread is world renowned)
•Windermere (the largest of the lakes)
•Tarn Hows (bought by Author Beatrix Potter and bequeathed to the National Trust)

It was difficult to decide which to visit on limited time. All were lovely with serene walks and/or challenging hikes, and it would be a dream to go back. And did you catch the name of that boat? How fitting.

One simply doesn’t go to Northern England and not visit THE WALL.

The construction of Roman Emperor Hadrian’s wall began in 122 CE and took about 6 years to complete, stretching 73 miles coast to coast across northern England, and standing 15 feet high.

At each mile was a gate and guard post called a milecastle. Here lies Milecastle 39!

#HadriansWall #NorthernEngland #Milecastle39

I pity the fools who had to carry stones up this crag to build the wall along the crest.

The wall, a spine down the length of the crag, now stands less than 5 feet high in most places. You might just be able to make out the teeny people making the trek to the top.

I made the trek! No wind nor steep steps could keep me from the top.

To conceptualize the fierceness of the wind, please enjoy watching this shadow of a cloud race across the hilltops.

Long way down.

I believe those are the remains of a turret behind me, they were placed every 1/3 of a mile between milecastles.

And the wall did not go in a straight line as witnessed by this sharp left down the hill.

This is known as Sycamore gap, once the site of a magnificent Sycamore tree, also known as the Robin Hood tree, because it was memorably featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

#SycamoreGap

The tree was maliciously cut down in 2023 by 2 world class a$$ hats, who have since been caught and charged. Oh the insecurities little men must have to be jealous of the fame and constancy of a tree.

The stump is sprouting, though! It will never be as it was, but they couldn’t crush her completely.

The wall runs through some beautiful untouched landscapes.
