heartbroken to share that we said goodbye to enzo on aug. 11. my ever-willful boy fought until the very end, and passed away surrounded by people who love both of us very much.

enzo has been in my life since i was 18, so for all my adult life, he’s been a reason to get out of bed and a guarantee that i will always come home to someone who’s been waiting to see me. my responsiblity to him has defined so much of the person i am. which is to say, losing him means a lot more than losing a pet.

still, as i’ve said a lot recently, 16 years is longer than i could have expected to have with him and we made every year count — we climbed many mountains, roadtripped, camped, and spent so much time with friends and family.

from the beginning he had a mind of his own and never did anything he didn’t want to (at least not without a fight). for that reason, he wasn’t always easy to have around and if he loved — or at least tolerated — you, it was only because you earned it.

the way my family and friends embraced him through all his seasons of life is something i can never fully express my gratitude for. but to everyone who showered enzo (and me) with love, patience, or just an enthusiastic DM, thank you 🤍 by @laurensaria

Outside Lands is technically a music festival, but the food lineup would like a word. 🍝🍕🍸

We ate our way through the Day 1 GA food lineup — no VIP wristband required — rating everything from spicy rigatoni and butter cake to smoked trout roe, giant Bagel Bites and a cheese-foam cocktail that did not age gracefully.

Our verdict: Outside Lands might actually be San Francisco’s best food festival.

San Francisco’s long-awaited Jollibee opens July 31, but we got an early taste. 🍗

Lauren Saria and Kevin Truong taste-tested and rated the Chickenjoy, Jolly Spaghetti, adobo rice, biscuits, peach mango pie, and more.

The results? A few surprises... and one perfect score.

today is enzo’s half birthday! that means he’s halfway to 17, which, to be honest, feels like a miracle. i don’t know how many more birthday he’ll get to celebrate — this willful old boy has stage 2 kidney disease and, most likely, IVDD, a degenerative spinal condition that’s making it harder and harder for him to move around. these days we’re taking short, supported walks (really more like short “stand outsides in the sun”) and i’m cherishing every one. i don’t know if i could ever truly reciprocate everything he’s given me over these long years. but for as long as i can, i’m certainly going to try 💛 by @laurensaria

birthday party, but make it picnic 🧺

thanks to everyone who made saturday the best picnic party a girl could ask for especially @chefjasonhalverson for the build-your-own handroll + hot dog set up, grill master @zachareats for inventing the Double Lauren Smash™️, @mginnett for the strawberry slab pie of my dreams, and @lenaepark for practically throwing out her back to blow up my pool floaty slash dog slash throne. minus three points to @cardad56reed for ICING me in my old age; plus three points to @lisanoursepr for finishing the bottle when i thought i was going to lose it.
