These 2 photos represents much more than a moment of competition. It represents 35 years of coaching.

35 years of working with athletes, searching, learning, questioning myself, going back to school, investing in education, sometimes starting over… with one goal: to become better so I can make others better.

Of course, I love the result. I love winning. But what I love even more is the journey that leads to victory: the work, the sacrifices, the doubts, the trust, the mental preparation, the technical analysis, strength, speed, power, tactics, strategy… and finally that one minute, that one second, when everything has to come together.

This photo also represents an athlete whose work ethic and high standards have pushed me to keep improving myself. A Silver Medalist in Weightlifting, but above all, a man who gets up at 6 a.m., works, trains, starts again and never gives up.

And that is what I love about coaching.

Helping an athlete grow. Getting the maximum out of their potential. Giving them confidence. But also, sometimes, helping the human being behind the athlete grow.

Because sport can be temporary. Medals become memories, careers eventually come to an end. But what we learn about ourselves — discipline, confidence, the taste for hard work and the ability to push ourselves to our limits — stays with us for life.

Over 35 years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching athletes in so many sports: triathlon, in enterprise, run-swimming, mountain biking, downhill, karate, hockey, football, rugby, fighting, weightlifting, CrossFit, kitefoil… and so many other incredible human adventures.

And after all these years, I still wake up wanting to help someone become better.

Because deep down, my philosophy has never changed:

I don’t need to be the one who wins.
I love being the one who helps others win.

In life, there are different kinds of coaches.

There are coaches who teach you how to lift more weight.
There are coaches who teach you how to compete.
And there are coaches who teach you to believe in yourself, even when things get difficult.

And then there is Laurent.

Even though we train in different gyms and our journey together hasn’t been going on for many years, he always finds a way to be there for me. He listens to me, advises me, gives me confidence, and treats me with a level of respect that means a lot to me.

And together, we have achieved things that I will never forget:

🥈 2025 — European Championship Silver Medal
🥇 2026 — European Champion
🥉🥇🥈2026 — World Champion
🥇🥇 Two-time Swiss Champion

But behind every medal, there is much more than kilos and results. There is trust, hard work, conversations, difficult moments, and someone who chose to believe in me and support me throughout this journey.

And a funny little fact… 😂
I don’t call him “Coach.” I call him “Papa.”

And I think that says a lot about the relationship we have and the respect I have for him.

Thank you, Laurent, for everything you do, for believing in me, and for always being there, even when we are not training in the same gym.

We still have many kilos to lift, many battles to fight, and many stories to write.

Brother, I want you to know how much I truly appreciate having you in my life. You’ve always been by my side through the good times and the bad, celebrating my happiness and standing with me when things got difficult. 🤝❤️

Thank you for listening to me, supporting me, believing in me even when I doubted myself, and never letting me feel like I was alone. People like you are rare, and I’m truly lucky to call you my friend.

No matter what happens or where life takes us, I want you to know that I’ll always be there for you too — through every fall, every victory, and every chapter of life.

Real friendship isn’t just about being there when everything is good; it’s about staying when life gets hard. Thank you for being that kind of friend. I appreciate you more than words can say, brother. ❤️🙏 by @laurentlitzler

Oh my God!

An incredible exhibition co-organized by the International Weightlifting Federation and the Swiss Weightlifting Federation 🇨🇭 with the support of the president of the local weightlifting club, the CLHM.

An innovative format, a mixed-gender, simultaneous competition… this new format, presented to a member of the International Olympic Committee, shows great potential for a promising future on the international stage.

It was a tremendous pleasure to participate with 2 mixed teams representing Switzerland 🇨🇭 and we secured a fantastic third-place finish out of the 8 international teams in attendance.

Congratulations to the winning team, the IWF Refugee Team.

What can we say? After an intestinal infection that affected half the participants—some of whom had to withdraw while on IV fluids—Samuel stepped off the scale at 61.05 kg for the -65 kg weight class... down 2.5 kg in 24 hours due to the infection. We’d like to congratulate him for still competing despite this setback. Way to go, Samuel! 👏 by @laurentlitzler

Closing Ceremony of the EWF Youth Camp 2026!

From the 12th to the 19th of July 2026 was held in Switzerland 🇨🇭 the EWF Youth Camp 2026. A very first in the Swiss Weightlifting Federation's history.

Many thanks to the EWF @ewfsport, to the National Center of High Performance Sports of Macolin/Magglingen @baspo_magglingen and to the Teams joining that amazing sports celebration.

Over 10 countries were joining 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇲🇳🇫🇮🇩🇰🇫🇴🇬🇷🇮🇸🇳🇱🇳🇴🇷🇸🇨🇭... for a total of over 80 participants.

From the bottom of our heart, we were pleased to organize that amazing training Camp and we are very grateful for all of those great souvenirs all together.

🇨🇭🇨🇴 Was für ein Zufall!

Genau in dem Moment, in dem heute Abend das Fussballspiel Schweiz–Kolumbien angepfiffen wird, startet Samuel Gehringer bei den Junioren-Weltmeisterschaften im Gewichtheben in Cali. 💪🌍

Als erster Schweizer Nachwuchsathlet überhaupt hat er sich für diese Weltmeisterschaften qualifiziert. Begleitet wird er von Nationaltrainer Laurent Litzler aus Biel.

In Cali tippen alle auf einen klaren Sieg Kolumbiens 😄. Deshalb tragen wir bei der Athletenpräsentation stolz das Schweizer Fussballtrikot!

Ziel: ein Platz unter den Top 12 der Welt und vielleicht sogar neue Schweizer Rekorde. 🇨🇭🏋️

🇨🇭🇨🇴 Hasard du calendrier… ou magnifique clin d’œil !

Ce soir, au moment exact où la Suisse affrontera la Colombie au football, Samuel Geringer débutera son épreuve aux Championnats du monde juniors d’haltérophilie… ici même à Cali ! 💪🌍

Premier jeune Suisse de l’histoire qualifié à ce niveau, Samuel représentera notre pays accompagné de son entraîneur national, le Biennois Laurent Litzler.

Dans les rues de Cali, tout le monde nous annonce une victoire colombienne 😄. Alors nous porterons fièrement le maillot suisse lors de la présentation des athlètes !

Objectif : un Top 12 mondial et, pourquoi pas, de nouveaux records de Suisse. 🇨🇭🏋️

Il y a quelques années maintenant. Samuel est rentré dans mon CrossFit et il me dit, je veux faire de l’haltérophilie, je lui ai dit pourquoi il m’a dit, je veux battre Servane ma fille voilà quatre ans plus tard, il a non seulement battu Servane mais il va faire ses premiers championnats du monde u17 ici en Colombie, je ne sais pas ce qu’il va se passer dans 3 ou 4 heures,( j’ai une idée 😉) mais je suis très très fier du travail qu’il a fait, tous les sacrifices, quoiqu’il arrive c’est juste un passage pour un bel avenir GO SALU 💪 taken in Cali, Colombia by @laurentlitzler
