🚨TWINKIE'S EUTHANASIA DEADLINE EXTENDED 10/19 MONDAY EOD 🆘️

Twinkie arrived at the shelter just over a month ago (September 4th). He was found roaming as a stray but microchipped. The owner was contacted by phone and mail. Both attempts went unanswered.

• In one-on-one interactions with volunteers, Twinkie is affectionate, connected, listens to cues such as sit, down, paw, and stay! He makes great eye contact with his handler and he loves to work for treats!

When Twinkie arrived at the shelter after being found on the streets, he had wounds on his body that needed treatment. There's no information about what happened to him, but it's possible he was attacked by another dog or involved in a dog fight. With no confirmed history, he has been muzzled during playgroups out of caution.
In playgroups, he's been described as gentle/dainty, selective with dogs, playful, acts like a hall monitor*, stiff greetings, would benefit from continued socialization.

• Twinkie is a strong boy and he's still learning about the world. An experienced handler is important to help him thrive. Someone who can confidently show him that Twinkie is safe. He may be best as the only dog in the home.

🆘️‼️ Due to kennel stress, Twinkie has been scheduled for euthanasia 💔 If he isn’t adopted or rescued today (10/18), tomorrow the shelter will be closed to the public, leaving a rescue as his only chance to be saved.

This boy has great potential, is VERY sweet and deserves a chance at life. Please share this reel so the right person can SEE Twinkie.

Update: Twinkie wasn't saved today. He will lose his life at 8 am on Sunday 10/18 unless someone steps up tonight. This is his last chance.

Twinkie #A2292863 was chosen to die at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This 4-year-old cutie will be euthanized if no one steps forward by Saturday, October 17th at 4 pm, because of a past he could not control. Found as a stray on September 4th in bad shape, Twinkie was microchipped and wearing a collar and tag, but his owner never came for him. Volunteers say he is an affectionate, smart, and eager-to-please boy who already knows some basic commands and is ready to bond with you. Twinkie’s body and face were covered in wounds when he arrived, and since the circumstances are unknown, he wears a muzzle during playgroups out of caution. Friendly but sometimes stiff and awkward with certain dogs, he would likely do best as the only pup in the home. Sadly, due to kennel stress, Twinkie was given a death sentence, and his time is quickly running out. Please consider fostering or adopting, pledging toward his rescue, and sharing his story everywhere so he can find the hero he desperately needs before it’s too late. Let Twinkie’s next chapter be a beautiful beginning, not a tragic goodbye.

Twinkie and Maxwell are scheduled to die at 8 am on Sunday 10/18 unless a foster or adopter steps up tonight. Their deadline has passed. This is their last chance to be noticed and make it out alive.

Twinkie #A2292863 is only 4. He arrived covered in wounds, still wearing his owner’s collar and tag. But no one showed up. Volunteers describe an affectionate, smart boy who is eager to bond.

Maxwell #A2284407 is just 1. His family surrendered him when they moved. He is still a goofy puppy who loves toys, splashing in the pool, and being with people.

Two young lives. Two boys who were failed by their owner. Both would thrive in a caring home without other dogs, where they can learn and decompress.

If you can help, do not wait until the shelter opens at 11 am. Arrive at 8 am when staff gets there. Twinkie and Maxwell could be euthanized before the doors open.

Update: ADOPTED

Maxwell #A2284407 won’t survive without a miracle at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Just 1 year old, this innocent baby boy desperately needs a foster or adopter by 4 pm on Saturday, October 17th, or he will be euthanized due to fear and stress in his cage. In July, Maxwell lost his home and family when they moved and said he couldn’t come along. Since then, he has been understandably sad, overwhelmed, and frustrated. Volunteers say Maxwell is an adorable, goofy puppy full of life and playful energy who adores toys and taking a dip in the pool. Likely undersocialized, he can be selective around other dogs and prefers the company of people. Maxwell deserves a devoted owner willing to help him become his best self through patience, training, and care. Please share his story today. Foster, adopt, or pledge toward his rescue before it’s too late. Maxwell is way too young to lose his chance at a happy future.

**Please contact the shelter directly with any questions or interest in helping. It’s best to visit in person since they rarely answer the phones.

Update: RESCUED

Nami #A2293233 is a puppy in urgent danger at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Just 7 months old, this gorgeous petite baby needs a foster or adopter by 4 pm on Thursday, October 15th, or she will die after the people she trusted left her behind. Nami’s owners got her at 3 months old, then dumped her 3 months later in September. They reported she was nippy with their children when they “do things she doesn’t like” and nipped the husband’s finger when he tried to grab her while she was hiding under a bed. Yet they also called her “friendly and outgoing” with strangers and “relaxed and playful” with other dogs. Instead of providing patience, support, and training, they walked away, like she didn’t matter. Volunteers describe Nami as a cute and smiley sweetheart who approaches for affection and leans in to be petted. Treat-motivated and eager to please, she already knows commands like “sit” and “down.” In playgroups, Nami is social, gentle, and excited to romp in the yard with her canine friends. She deserves the chance to learn and grow, but instead, she is facing death and quickly running out of time to make it out of here alive. Please don’t let Nami be failed again. Consider being a foster or adopter, share her story, or pledge support so a reputable rescue can step in. It would be utterly heartbreaking for her life to end when it has barely just begun.

**Please contact the shelter directly with any questions or interest in helping. It’s best to visit in person since they rarely answer the phones.

Update: RESCUED

Luna #A2268025 is about to lose her life at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Unless a committed foster or adopter steps up for this beautiful 4-year-old Cane Corso mix girl by Thursday, October 15th at 4 pm, she will be euthanized for being scared and stressed after waiting so patiently to be noticed. Luna was abandoned by her owner in April, still full of milk, alongside her puppies. They have all been adopted, but six long months later, she remains overlooked and forgotten. Initially nervous, Luna has become a volunteer favorite with her sweet, social personality. A recent “Adventure Buddy Day” gave her a break from confinement, and she thrived. Gentle and dainty in playgroups with other dogs, she savors the freedom of time spent outside. Luna also has a cherry eye condition that is treatable with proper veterinary care. One caring person could turn her death sentence into the new beginning she truly deserves. Please share her story far and wide and pledge your support so she can escape this nightmare and make it out alive. Luna should be comforted through her fear, not condemned for being unable to hide it.

RESCUED BY @sweetangeldogrescue

Gucci #A2289276 is next to be euthanized at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. Unless he is adopted or fostered by Tuesday, October 13th at 4 pm, this precious, scruffy 2-year-old boy will die, having already lost his home and the person he loved. Gucci arrived on August 12th after his owner tragically passed away. Deemed “personal property,” he waited for family to reclaim him. Nobody came. Understandably stressed, confused, and frightened, he now faces an unfair death sentence for struggling to cope with circumstances beyond his control. Volunteers describe Gucci as a “sweet guy who needs time to trust.” Curious about his surroundings, he seems to seek reassurance by standing beside you. Once comfortable, he enjoys pets and reveals his friendly, gentle personality. He even allowed a volunteer to open his mouth to examine a tooth. Gucci appears overwhelmed around other dogs in playgroups and clearly prefers being with humans. A quiet place to recover could change everything for him. Please, step forward as Gucci’s foster or adopter before it’s too late. Pledge support and share his story everywhere. Let’s give him somewhere to belong and a chance to feel cherished again. Losing his closest companion should not cost him his future.

Update: NIKO IS FREE! PLEASE HONOR YOUR PLEDGES TO SUPPORT HIS TRAINING AND HEALING TO @redlinerescue

Niko #A2290650 is a 2-year-old red Pittie who arrived at the shelter injured, with wounds on his body and a limp. Despite that rough start, he has shown everyone a sweet, playful side. He loves toys, fetch, affection, and belly rubs. He knows “sit,” proudly brings the ball back, and has been social and playful with other dogs.
Niko is now Rescue Only after an incident during an “Adventure Buddy Day” away from the shelter. After spending a happy day at the park and picking out toys at Petco, Niko fell deeply asleep in the car on the way back. When he was suddenly reached for, he startled awake and nipped the woman who had taken him out.
The woman involved @emily_lizbethh is speaking out because she does not believe Niko should die for that moment:

“Niko is the sweetest boy. He let me scratch behind his ears, leaned in for love, licked my face, and rolled around in the grass soaking up the day. He was gentle, affectionate, and so full of joy. When he woke up suddenly, I think he thought I was reaching for a toy. I want to be 100% clear as the person involved: this was an accident, not aggression. He was abruptly startled from a deep sleep after an overwhelming day and misread a gesture. Niko spent the entire day showing me his true, loving character. He does not deserve to die because of one split-second mistake.”

Niko is hidden in the back, running out of time, and needs an experienced rescue, foster, or adopter who understands dog behavior and will give him time to decompress.

Please share, pledge, tag rescues, and help us find Niko’s hero before 4 PM today. One startled reaction should not be his death sentence.

URGENT! PLEASE HELP US HELP PIA ❤️If you can offer her a long-term foster home or adopt her, or if you are a rescue who can help, please DM us.
Pia is a 1yo, 60lbs, spayed girl who URGENTLY needs a safe place to land.

Pia has already lost her home 3 times in her short life. She was rescued as a puppy from a difficult situation, but the family who saved her was later deported. She was rehomed again, and although she was scared and undersocialized at first, she began to blossom in a loving home with another dog. Sadly, it didn’t last. Her new family also faced immigration issues and had to surrender Pia to the shelter on September 1.
Pia was still learning about the world when she suddenly found herself in a big, scary shelter. Terrified and overwhelmed, Pia spent her days trembling and hiding in the back of her kennel. She had little chance to decompress and learn where she is. During an evaluation attempt, Pia became extremely fearful and defensively bit a staff member’s finger while being leashed. This small bite resulted in a 10-day bite hold and then she landed on euthanasia list.💔Pia didn’t deserve to lose her life for being scared. She just needed time, patience, and someone willing to help her feel safe.
A member of her original family stepped up to save and is doing everything possible to buy her time but he cannot keep her. In ONE WEEK, Pia will have nowhere to go. If she returns to the shelter, she will be immediately at risk of losing her life.

Pia is just a scared dog who never had a real chance. With someone she knows and trusts, she is happy, loving, affectionate, and full of life.
Please don’t give up on Pia. She needs a calm home with a friendly, balanced dog may help her continue coming out of her shell and learning to trust.

Please consider sharing Pia’s story today. Saving lives doesn’t always take hours of work it can just be minutes of your day that can make a difference. Whether it’s sharing a post, fostering, pledging, commenting every little thing helps. Rescue is about a community coming together to help. Please get involved and be the reason a life is saved. her old #a2292375 📍Los Angeles taken in Los Angeles, California by @laurgentdogs

Ginger #A2286079 is scheduled to be euthanized at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This beautiful 4-year-old copper pittie girl has been given a death sentence for being scared and stressed, and she urgently needs an adopter or foster by Wednesday, September 30th at 4 pm.
Ginger has already been utterly failed by humans. She arrived on July 24th after being abandoned when her owners were evicted, left behind inside the home they had shared. LAPD discovered her trapped in a cage in an extremely unsanitary room filled with trash and debris. Her ears had been cropped painfully short. At the shelter, Ginger was placed on a hold that confined her inside a kennel again, without volunteer interaction or a chance to decompress.
Despite the horrific treatment she has endured, Ginger remains a very sweet, affectionate lady. During a recent “adventure day,” she spent a few joyful hours running, playing, visiting Petco, and happily greeting new people. Around other dogs, Ginger has been noted as rough and rowdy and may be selective.
She overcame neglect, isolation, and being forgotten. Please do not let fear be the reason she loses her life. Help Ginger by adopting or fostering, pledging toward her rescue, and sharing her story far and wide. You may be the one person she needs to make it out alive.

**Please DM @friendsofnorthcentralshelter with any questions or interest in helping to save her.

Niko #A2290650 was chosen to die at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. At just 2 years old, this adorable red Pittie boy will be euthanized unless a foster, adopter, and rescue step up before Wednesday, September 30th at 4 pm. Niko was surrendered on August 21st, arriving in poor condition with multiple wounds on his body and a limp. No information was provided about his past. Volunteers say he adores toys, fetch, and affection. He proudly returns the ball, knows how to sit, rolls onto his back, and enjoys pets. Niko has also been social and playful with other dogs, though occasionally pushy and selective.
Sadly, he got an “adventure day” outside the shelter with a new friend, only for it to end in tragedy. Niko had a wonderful time and fell asleep in the car on the way back, but startled awake when someone reached to pet him, reacting with a nip. Now, this frightened moment may cost him his future. Niko has been moved to the back, hidden from public view, and labeled rescue only. He deserves love, patience, and the opportunity to decompress with a caring, experienced person, not an unfair punishment.
Please share Niko’s story, pledge support to attract a rescue, and help him reach the foster or adopter who can save his life before he disappears forever.

Update: IN FOSTER CARE 👏

George #A2280103 is set to lose his life at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This darling 3-year-old pup will be euthanized unless a foster or adopter steps up before Wednesday, September 23rd at 4 pm because he is fearful and stressed. George arrived as a stray in June, initially very timid, but volunteers have seen a completely different side of him. In the yard, he is silly, joyful, and puppy-like, zooming around, romping with toys, and leaning in for pets. George also knows how to sit and takes treats gently. He has gained confidence through playgroups with other dogs, offering appropriate greetings and corrections while remaining social and steerable. Sadly, George was given a death sentence because the constant confinement has left him nervous and overwhelmed. All he needs is one caring person willing to open their heart and home to spare him a tragic end. Please share George’s story everywhere, pledge support, and consider being a foster or adopter today. He does not deserve to die for being afraid.
