*not sure I could upspeak more in this vid but* Five weeks ago I had a preventative double mastectomy and DIEP flap construction. Huh? It’s a lot! My boobs are made out of my stomach now! HOW WEIRD!

I am SO LUCKY I even had this choice, I am SO LUCKY I had insurance to cover it (don’t worry, insurance going away soon, cool), I am SO LUCKY I had AMAZING DOCTORS (which was scaaaaary for me, because after some rough medical experiences, I admittedly had a phobia of going to see doctors), and most hugely — I am SO UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY to have had support from family and friends along the way... like from people who have gone through this procedure themselves for the same reasons to people who have gone through cancer and have been SO BRAVE (whether they wanted to be or not) and SO GIVING with their time and advice and personal experiences, caring enough to help me get right here, where I am: Feeling really happy with my decision and like myself again.

-Did the first week suck? OH YAH.
-Is there a lot of scarring? For now! I still have one more surgery to go... but honestly, it’s nothing I’m upset about. My body’s been through a lot in general, I’m used to seeing it look a lot of different ways, and I weirdly think I like these scars. To me, they’re saying “WOW you care about your future and your family’s future and you took hold of an opportunity a lot of people would’ve killed to take, if they’d been offered it... how lucky are you?”
-My boobs are made out of my... stomach? Yes, friends. They took fat from my stomach and turned them into breasts. Life is weird. [CONT IN COMMENTS] by @laurmarcus

So this song has been coming up SO much recently and in so many different ways. I’ll stop fighting it (the way I initially did when I wrote it? Because our brains are both wise and IMPOSSIBLE?!) and hope that maybe someone else will glean something from it today bc I’m just feeling woo woo like that and that’s okay

Happy Birthday, my man.

Love is not a strong enough word.

You truly keep me from flying off into the ether. You keep me sane. You make me laugh when I’m crying and other times you make me laugh until I cry. Watching you as a dad (to both Cat Dooter and Hooman Dooter) makes my heart feel things I did not know it could feel. Roxie is absolutely obsessed with you. Diane thinks she’s married to you. I continue to find you the handsomest. I continue to listen to your music when you are not around. I continue to absolutely love coming home to you and going to sleep at 3:30am when you are out of town. Your brain continually surprises me. Your patience with me this year amazes me. So does your dedication to my dreams, along with yours.

No, love is not a strong enough word.

Also, my god you have the best hair. Even now that I have some again I am still jealous.

Acclaimed retro-pop singer/songwriter Lauren Marcus and her illustrious band of New York City musicians make their way to Lauren’s favorite basement in the city (seriously... the woman got married at The Beechman!) for a monthly residency.
