BAND APPRECIATION POST!!! 🎤🪩🔥

There are few things in this world that bring me more joy than singing and dancing on tables, stages, and street corners with my crazy friends. We’ve been doing it since we were 12, and I fully intend to keep doing it until we’re 112.

But on October 11th, @cwe.unltd from @cafewhaentertainment took our lifelong love of a dance party to a whole new stratosphere.

I have NEVER IN MY LIFE experienced a more outrageously talented, electrifying, jaw-dropping group of musicians, singers, and entertainers.

The voices. The musicianship. The ENERGY. Every single one of them is a force of nature, and together, nothing short of MAGIC.

To the extraordinary humans of UNLMTD! — THANK YOU for giving us the dance party of our wildest dreams. For pouring your hearts, souls, and ridiculous talent into every single song. For lighting up that room and giving us a night we’ll never forget.

And FUN FACT: They perform all over NYC, often at Cafe Groove in the Village. I will be there rocking out at the altar of their voices every chance I get.

Thursday 10/29 7pm is their next performance.

“Kaboom” from The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical music and lyrics by @mrjoeiconis - Gonzo Journalism WOCKA WOCKA
There is a garden behind the theatre
where the old songs go to seed
where every rose remembers
who first taught it how to bleed
The gates are kept by careful hands
who fear what they can’t name
so every spring they plant again
the flowers that already came

But give the keys to Iconis
Let the strange man tend the ground
He knows a weed may be a hymn
before it learns its sound
He knows the crooked branch may bear
the sweetest fruit we’ve grown
and sometimes what will save a field
is something still unknown

Let him plant the loud ones
Let him cultivate the weird
Let him water every voice
we were instructed not to hear
Let something bloom too brightly
Let something bloom too late
Let something grow so goddamn wild
it climbs across the gate

For he has loved the garden
That is what the keepers miss
The rebel does not hate the rose
because he asks for more than this
He knows the names of those before
the roots beneath the song
he only knows a living thing
must change to carry on

So give him dirt beneath his nails
Give him a season without fear
Give him the kids who’ve spent their lives
believing they don’t belong here
Give him the failures and the freaks
the hearts too strange to hide
A garden isn’t beautiful
because nothing ever dies

It’s beautiful because somewhere
beneath what we can see
a seed is making up a song
for what it wants to be
And maybe Broadway doesn’t need
another perfect rose
Maybe it needs somebody brave enough
to tend the thing
nobody knows #joeiconis #huntersthompson #musicaltheatrelife #musicaltheater #muppets

For your GRAMMY® consideration: City of Fruits 🏙️🍓🍊🍋🍍

I set out to create inclusive music for kids that has catchy hooks and important messages like body positivity, empathy, and self-expression. By pairing forward-thinking messaging with sounds inspired by 60s and 70s pop, funk, disco, and soul, City of Fruits uses the warmth of the past to explore the world kids are growing up in today.

🚨The Drugstore Residency ENCORE!🚨

Acclaimed retro-pop singer/songwriter Lauren Marcus and her illustrious band of New York City musicians make their way to Lauren’s favorite basement in the city (seriously... the woman got married at The Beechman!) for a monthly residency.

A set of wholly original tunes inspired by:
✨ The effervescent melody of 1960s pop
✨ The lyrical poetry of 1970s troubadours
✨ And, the electric edge of contemporary indie rock

Lauren’s sound is at once a throwback and completely forward-thinking. Lauren is well-known to theater audiences for her performances in Be More Chill (Broadway), The Jonathan Larson Project and White Girl in Danger (Off-Broadway), but this is a whole ‘nother side of the gal. After delighting audiences with several Rockwood Music Hall residencies over the past few years, Lauren and her crew are thrilled to be bringing their downtown spirit up a ways to 42nd Street.

“Take all the female rock stars you have known and loved and roll them up into one. Take, for instance, Linda Ronstadt’s soul, Tina Turner’s sexiness, Pat Benatar’s grit, Debbie Harry’s defiance, and all of The Go-Go’s playfulness, mix and bake at 350, then frost with a five-inch thick layer of The Icing of Originality, and you’ve got Lauren Marcus.” -BroadwayWorld
