Lauryn Sings Jazz Live: Teach Me Tonight

First, please excuse my mom for fiddling around with the recording…we’re working on it. However, without her, I wouldn’t have this video nor this voice so thank you mama 🤣❤️

Second, I’ve been in a jazz ensemble for over a year now and my oh my I’ve grown immensely. A special thank you to @jamaltru_ for pushing me to be a soprano in the group as well as pushing me to do something terrifying (scatting). I’ve gained a new sense of confidence in my range and improvisation. I’m forever grateful for you. ❤️

Also, shoutout to @asvpjay._ for holding it down on the drums all night. 🥰

Episode 1: If I had a verse on ICU by Coco Jones
There’s a a small verse in the beginning that I wrote.
Long overdue. I’m tired. I look a way but I just said whatever and used the videos 🤣

I have a perfection issue and choose to give it to God this time. I hope y’all enjoy. Enjoy your Friday. 🎵🎵

Oh Vancouver!! 🇨🇦 You surely will be missed! From good cardio to good eats to good company. I plan to come back to Canada because it was lovely every time we stopped by. Up next: The Crossing to Japan 🇯🇵

Have you been to Canada before?! If so where’d you go and how was it? 🥰 taken in West Vancouver, British Columbia by @laurynlive

People are getting at me for not positing so HERE DANG 🤣!

Singing a song one big dress at a time 😭. This is from the Jazz set on the #ritzcarltonyachtcollection “Luminara” 🌟

I always open this number saying how I hope I get to feel this way one day. Secure in love... Maybe someday but for now, I’ll keep using this voice and moving this body to the rhythm.

More to come ❤️ #singer #performer #jazz #vocalist taken in The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection by @laurynlive

🚨 The part of Jazz is without a doubt improvisation. 🚨

Now I didn’t know I was going to flow for over 2 minutes but hey when the music is on, anything is possible. There’s something so freeing about trusting the moment.

Thank you @desioakley for filming 🥹 much love to you 😘. Thank you @jpaul86 for giving @carmen.luttik and I the space to explore and create from our hearts on stage. We couldn’t do this without you 🩵. Thank you to @cristiansanluis @a_drum_s @thomas.james.smith @al_onbass for providing the foundation. 🥰❤️

✨Quick backstory: I’ve never wanted to sing this song because I thought it was too many words and I would lose my place. Little did I know, when I’d start singing it, I’d be singing would be with a track as well! 🤣 If you know me, you know I HATE a track because it doesn’t breathe in the way I prefer BUT we make it work every time. It gets easier and easier every night ✨ Disco Night always ends with this number.

Shoutout to @guylockard on the recording. One of the most considerate human beings I’ve come across in my life. Thank you for your fellowship, your ear, and your wisdom. ❤️

Shoutout to my mom for forcing me to post this LOL.

Watch until the end 🚨

This was my second time singing this song in public. I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything since this selection holds so much power, depth, and meaning.

The purpose of this entire journey away from home is more about my internal world than external. With each day that comes, I am strengthening my faith so that this song becomes my daily state of being: “I’m feeling good”

Thank you EVERYONE for your support and encouragement with every post. It means the WORLD to me. Your love is seen, felt, and I continue to carry it with me with each performance. ❤️🥹 Forever Grateful

Social media is a gamble, but I’ll always place my bet on acknowledging those who came before me. Those who intentionally and unintentionally carved roads for me to follow today.

I almost redid this video because I was so in my head. But then I realized some things are bigger than me and my need for perfection.

The beauty of music and the spotlight is that they can work hand in hand with social justice. Thank you @missjillscott for the your rendition of the National Anthem you wrote at 19 in 1991. It still carries its full weight today.

Thank you to Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Prince, Edwin Starr, Michael Jackson, Public Enemy, James Brown, Nat King Cole, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Jimi Hendrix, Nancy Wilson, Bob Marley, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monáe, and so many others. The list goes on.

Thank you to the artists who remind us that you can still acknowledge the world around you while still creating your own. Those two things can absolutely coexist.

Anywho! Be safe outside today, y’all! 🧨🎇🎆

Transparency moment: Most people who have seen me live haven’t seen me in my personal element. I do love to sing and storytell yes …but I LOVE to move. If I ain’t shake something, I promise I didn’t leave that stage fulfilled. I love the high energy moments. Sadly enough, I don’t have much high quality footage of me performing in that light but here’s what I do have:

1. Ignore this or don’t 🤣 IG doesn’t support low quality videos and that’s pretty much all I have past this one.
2. Cutting up as a guest with my old cover band. If you look close enough you can see my brother 👀
3. An original Lauryn live experience done with @scalefellowship. I will release one day to the public!
4. Maldives 🇲🇻: moving and grooving
5. Maldives 🇲🇻: my favorite cover song
6. Singing in @theestoop. I didn’t feel well during that time but I enjoyed working with @jlntyre as I always do
7. You know the location by now 📍
8. If there’s one thing imma doc, it’s dance by myself.
9. At Torch with @inahayez, I am guaranteed to move something whenever I’m with them by @laurynlive
