One of my all time favorite bands, and biggest inspirations. Probably my favorite set I’ve ever seen from @hirs666. This was my first time seeing them since I broke my arm doing a tgirl spin pit at Wastelands - I can’t stop thinking about it. We’re still here. It’s really hard to find more words to describe how I feel about the Kimya Dawson show we did at @indigohousebuffalo on Friday. I guess all I can really say is: so many people worked so hard to make this special, and we couldn’t have imagined it to be nearly as magical as it ended up being. In the pouring rain, over a hundred strangers and not-strangers; community- met up to share in something special.

There will never be another artist quite like Kimya. They were so kind, generous with their time, and their set was filled with their trademark humor, earnestness, heart, and honesty. I tried to really capture that moment of “porch time with grandpa”, while still giving space for plenty of crowd shots- you could hear a pin drop in that crowd, despite the pitterpatter of the raindrops. Buffalo can be a really, really special place.

I was quite lucky to be invited to shoot for PP for this one, and I’m so glad they asked. They’ve been riding a real fun wave for a while now, and they brought all of that energy and then some to this performance. A band with a ton of chemistry, the crowd had as much fun during this set as they had with each other. The Cave was PACKED OUT for this bill, and the boys did a terrific job with it. GIRL did it feel good to be at a basement show again. I’ve said to anyone who would listen that I’ve been really excited about Headbutt as a new band in Buffalo, and they never disappoint. Versatile with distinct, floaty, and direct vocals from Wavy, complete with a sturdy and creative instrumental core with the band, Headbutt mixes pieces of indie rock, hyperpop, pop punk, Midwest emo, and post punk to do some really fun and interesting stuff. Kam and Bran’s last band together was one of my local favorites, and was one of the first bands to ever play Lav Room, so every time I see them play together again, it’s like visiting an old friend. Also the COSTUMES every show are so awesome. You can tell they’re just having fun doing a new thing, and it’s great to get to be a small part of it. PAY ATTENTION TO HEADBUTT. THEYRE SO FUN.

Congrats on 15 years, Bran. And the RETURN of a groovy lil basement spot. We need these small local spaces so much, just like we need local creatives creating art, but especially the producers and technicians that help give artists their wings. It takes all of us. Thanks for being such an important part of that here!!!!
