As the days went on, we moved through the different exhibitions, talks, performances and gatherings, I was constantly reminded of how much of a role people play in shaping cultural spaces. There was a lot to take in.

Grateful for the people I met and the opportunity to experience this moment of Pan-African exchange in Nairobi.

It really does take a village. 🫶🏽

I had the pleasure of joining the @modernblack.art “It Takes a Village” Conversations at @samsunguk KX, Kings Cross, for a conversation about the people, relationships and communities that help shape an artist’s journey.

It was a special one for me because so much of my own practice has been shaped by the people around me, and even those who simply take the time to listen and engage with the work.

The conversation had me reflect on the network of people and experiences that make the work possible, how much of life is built through community.

Thank you to Anna Kuforiji and the Modern Black Art team for creating the space and bringing together such an interesting group of people. It was a pleasure sharing the conversation with @ibijoke.img @kennwadiogbu, and being surrounded by so many people invested in the growth and visibility of Black creative practice.

And thank you to everyone who came, listened and shared their thoughts. Wishing you all the best in your endeavours.

Our journeys may be individual, but they are never made alone.❤️✨

Pan-African Biennale 2026, Nairobi, Kenya.

The first thing that struck me was the space itself, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. There was something fitting about gathering for a Pan-African discourse in a building with such architectural and historical significance. Somehow, the setting felt like part of the conversation.

And beyond the architecture, it felt like there was something else in the air, this energy that seemed to bring people together.

Architects, designers, researchers, artists, curators, cultural practitioners and students arriving from different places on the globe carrying their own questions, ideas and also making time to experience Nairobi and everything the city had to offer at that time.

I found myself moving between exhibitions, conversations, and moments of simply taking it all in.

A few moments from the first part of the Biennale.

Meet Lawrence. Artist, designer, creative entrepreneur, and one of our I Am Change alumni. His work’s been shown in London and Lagos, but most days still look like this, quiet, ordinary, unglamorous. That’s the part nobody shows you.

If you’re a young creative or an early career professional in London still figuring out your lane, this is what the process actually looks like. Not overnight. Not perfect. Just consistent.

20/20 Levels exists for exactly this, mentorship, community and career development for young people who are done waiting for permission to start.
