"Forms of Energy Between Abstraction and Narrative"—a panel this Tuesday, 1/27 at the Center for Architecture, 6pm. Held in conjunction with the exhibition "Making Energy Visible," this event brings together four participants—Karen Bausman, Lawrence Blough, Jose Sanchez and Jonathan Scelsa—who will present their works in the exhibition, followed by a conversation about the relationship between architecture and energy moderated by David Salomon. Palladio's La Rotonda, Vicenza. What struck me was not the cerebral logic of the 'mathematics' but the theatricality and contemporality of the montaging of components. Additionally, Aureli's description of the late villas as fluctuating between the absolute (formal autonomy) and the contingent (kinematic experience in relation to the landscape) seems on point. And besides all of that, it was spectacular to behold! by @lawrenceblough

My final post from Italy for this visit. Scarpa's renovation of the Querini Stampalia in Venice (I connected with it much more than I did with the Olivetti showroom). The project is deeply conceptual in its conversation with Venice—how the city, it's organization and fabric, its strengths and precarities are inextricably bound to it's relationship with water. A finely terraced section containing pools, bridges, dams, and platforms structures the portego as a type of canal lock. Scarpa's use of light, color, and materialty heighten the character and sequence of the spaces continually changing with the tides and weather. by @lawrenceblough
