The 2 newest kittiwake hotels at Strandveien 8, in Tromsø caught the attention of Norways minister of Climate and the Environment,Andreas Bjelland Eriksen. Happy the project got funding to continue the process in 2027 to move them in small steps to another more permanent location as the building will be demolished.

Stepping into a new adventure:
Esso.S is a site development project on the former oil depot at Samasjøen in Harstad. In collaboration with Harstad Municipality, neighbors, volunteers and Festspillene i Nord-Norge, parts of the disused industrial area are being transformed into a green meeting place with a rest area, vegetable garden and dissemination of the site’s industrial history. The project connects green transformation, cultural heritage and social sustainability, and will be further developed through artistic and public-oriented initiatives.
During FINN 2026, ESSO.S invites you to a workshop and botanical-archaeological walk. It is about listening and collecting ideas for further development in 2027 and 2028

For more detailed work in progress (in Norwegian) follow @essosprosjekt

Thanks to @dagmagand

Our beloved kittiwakes are finally arriving for their yearly nesting season. Surprisingly late or more irregular like many other natural cycles but a relief they finally show up after an unstable season last summer. We installed some new hotels, moved or updated others. Not everything works immediately but things are moving forward thanks to a great community supporting the project including @kjeldnash , @ninaforskning , @rissa_citizen_science , @urbanekrykkjer @tromsfylke @tromsokommune

Art+Larch talk with Lawrence Malstaf 9th of February 15:15-17:00 at Kunstakademiet, Grønnegata 1. Welcome!

About the artist:
The work of Lawrence Malstaf (1972 Belgium) is situated on the borderline between the visual and the theatrical. He develops installation and performance art with a strong focus on motion and coincidence. He creates immersive sensorial rooms for individual visitors and also larger mobile structures dealing with space and orientation. Living objects, kinetic architecture and physical interaction are characteristic for the installations by Lawrence Malstaf. His responsive environments generate theatrical situations involving the visitor as an essential presence and co-actor in their dramaturgy. In a complex play with unstable order, chance and change his machines display emotion, doubt and other human qualities. Recent projects focus more on public space, nature conservation and upcycled materials.

Lawrence Malstaf has received several international awards in the field of art and new technology. He is also well known as an innovative scenographer in the dance and theatre world. He currently lives and works in Tromsø (Norway) and exhibits internationally with strong focus on a more ecological art practice.
