@lawrencemalstaf Lawrence Malstaf’s SHRINK transforms the human body into a living installation, exploring vulnerability, trust, and the boundaries between control and surrender.
Even after 30 years, the project continues to challenge performers to face their fears, connect with strangers, and embrace the unknown.
Take a closer look at this powerful encounter between art, body, and human connection.

🇬🇧In SHRINK 01995, Lawrence Malstaf has a human body slowly vacuum-packed between two transparent plastic sheets. The suspended body gradually moves from an almost embryonic posture to a position reminiscent of a crucifixion, while the pressure envelops it ever more tightly.
Being confronted with this vulnerable, moving body makes us acutely aware of our own body and our own presence. We almost feel along with the person in the installation, and as a result we become conscious of our own breathing, boundaries and physicality. It brings the realisation that we are not just looking, but are ourselves a body that feels and perceives.
