3 things I wish I knew as a new plant parent ⬇️

1. Overwatering has nothing to do with the amount of water; rather, the frequency in which you water! Give your plants a breather in between waterings to dry out a bit 💦

2. I always fertilized my outdoor plants, so I’m unsure why I thought my houseplants didn’t need to be fed regularly. Fertilize your plants consistently! I use Foliage Pro every time I water 🥕

3. Your plants need light! In the middle of the kitchen island (guilty) might be the aesthetic choice, but your plants need to be right in front of a window. If not, supplement with grow lights! *light meters are so helpful if you’re not sure how much light your plant is getting - it’s probably less than you think! ☀️

There are more things on the list, but these are my top 3! If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask! 🫶🏼

Astrophytum asteris variegata cactus bloom! 🌸✨

This cactus has fuzzy areoles all over it, so I had no idea the bigger areoles forming on the top would turn into blooms!🌵

What are cactus areoles? Cactus areoles are small, light to dark-colored bumps found on cacti. They play three vital roles by producing spine clusters, flowers and branches. Essentially, areoles are modified axillary buds! 🤓

The beautiful yellow flower with a red center was such a fun surprise! 🥳

Are any of your cacti currently blooming?! 🌵🌸✨

I haven’t been very active on here. Many of you know about the devastating loss our community faced, but for those who don’t, the past month has been incredibly heavy.
I’m slowly easing my way back into things…one step, one plant chore, one deep breath at a time.
I know I’ve missed messages and comments—I’m working my way back as I can. Thank you for giving me grace and sticking with me. The amount of love I’ve received has been deeply humbling. Here are a few plants that have brought me small moments of joy recently. 💚 by @laynesleafylife

Some people change your life forever.

What started as a job—being their nanny—quickly became family.
Lainey and Ellie were my shining stars, my perfect girls.
They brought joy and light wherever they went, loving big and laughing loud.

Both girls were hilarious and beautiful in their own right.
Lainey was fearless—a pilot, a chef, a world traveler, a true force of nature.
Ellie was my little one—so kind and full of grace, dancing through life with a light all her own.

They made me so proud.
The way they loved Anna and stood up for the underdog said everything about who they were—girls with hearts of pure gold.

Mark was one of a kind—always chasing adventure (and a good meal)—with his best friend Stella never far behind.

A piece of my heart left with them.
The love I have for them runs deep—it’s the kind that fills every corner of your soul. A world without them seems impossible.
Please keep Misty in your prayers as she faces the hardest days ahead.

My world (and my family’s) are better because we got to love them.
It was the greatest honor of my life. by @laynesleafylife

Breaking news: my Hoya mitrata (silver) just gave me her first bloom, and somewhere my other Hoyas are taking notes…🌸✏️

This is one of the coolest blooms in my collection to date, but it’s not very fragrant! 🤔

What’s blooming in your collection right now? 🌿

First live in the books ✅

Unplanned. Unfiltered. Slightly tipsy. 🥂🌿 Opening my Hoya crocodile because self-control is overrated—and yes, I called it an alligator the whole time 😂

Got to play plant stylist for a friend this week and refresh her planters—kinda wishing this was my full-time job! Loving how everything turned out 💚

🪴 Recipe for the matching white pots:
🌱 Colorblaze Torchlight Coleus
🌱 Asparagus Fern
🌱 Compact Electric Orange SunPatiens
🌱 Silver Falls (Dichondra argentea)
🌱 Angelonia AngelMist® Spreading White

When planting containers, make sure to start with a quality potting mix! I used Happy Frog by @foxfarmsoilandfertilizer—my go-to. 🌱 I also like to mix in a little @osmocotegarden while planting for some slow-release goodness—it makes the whole setup way more low-maintenance through the season! 🌿

My best girl turned 29 yesterday!!! How??? My favorite mermaid/human hybrid is officially one year closer to 30 and still the funniest, most iconic mix of chaos and main character energy I know 🧜🏼‍♀️💕🥳

Life without my banana would be so boring (and significantly less sparkly). Love you tons, Anna aka Cleo!!! Happy birthday to the girl who brings the drama, the dance moves and the good vibes everywhere she goes 🐚💖🌊🍓🪩🌙💃🏻

She’s showing off her mermaid Plant Crystal from @plantcrystals.co she got for Christmas! It lives in my Rhipsalis paradoxa—such a cute combo!✨

P.S. Our love language? Singing “Broadway Girls” at full volume in the car. 🎤🤠 We love you @morganwallen!!!

Planty mail? Yes please! 📦
Just unboxed some new cuties from one of my favorite shops, and I’m obsessed! 😍 Heather (@mullinixcollective) makes the cutest 3D-printed planters + other goodies—and she just launched apparel too! 🌿👚

She and her husband are currently raising money for IVF, and there’s a section of the shop dedicated to funding their journey. You can read their story and shop the IVF Fund collection on her website—every purchase from that section goes directly toward making their dream a reality 💛

Wearing my @shediggsdirt tee in this reel! We’re all about supporting small, woman-owned businesses around here 🫶🏼
Go peek Heather’s site—you just might find something your cart can’t live without 💻🪴
