Grand Souffle ll, 2026 (50 x 50 cm) from the Souffle series, among others to be presented in the exhibition Cilia, was produced by the artist at Fonderia Campagner in Milan. Wax, transformed into recycled aluminum, brass, or bronze, captures the precise moment when, carried by the air, the material oscillates between fluidity and stability. Graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris with highest honours, Léa Dumayet develops sculptures that make the moment of contact with matter tangible. “C’est l’air qui intervient en premier dans l’oeuvre. Dans son atelier, l’artiste travaille à partir de cire fondue étalée en une couche épaisse dans un cadre en bois. Lors de cette première étape, elle recherche le point de tension où la cire n’est ni trop liquide ni trop dure. Ce geste à la fois intuitif et aléatoire, marque l’intervention directe de l’artiste sur la matière. En soufflant sur la cire, Léa infuse littéralement une part d’elle-même dans son oeuvre, un acte symbolique qui transcende le simple façonnage. Dans la pensée philosophique grecque, le souffle, ou pneuma en grec ancien, désigne un mélange de feu et d’air, cette énergie qui anime toutes les manifestations de l’existence, reliant le psychique au physique, l’intérieur à l’extérieur. One of the works that will be presented in CILS is Rittrato, part of Léa Dumayet’s ongoing research on balance, tension, and the relation between natural and industrial materials. Léa Dumayet’s sculptural practice is guided by a search for balance and tension between opposites, which the viewer perceives in her work: natural and industrial, heavy and light, stable and unstable. These seemingly contradictory qualities, however, are not opposing but complementary, forming a cohesive whole. They are essential components of the simple, elegant, and powerful compositions she creates. Multidisciplinary artist Léa Dumayet @leadumayet lives and works between Paris and Milan. In February and March, she joined artist-in-residence Andrea Bordács in Venice, developing part of her research in dialogue with local environment and craftsmanship. We quote art critic Maya Sachweh who has been following Léa’s work from early stage: ‘Her practice bares sculptural nature, an outcome of the instinctive, empirical research on the characteristics of diverse materials and natural elements, brought to the point of rupture in order to witness the potential. Her sculptures and installations are often fragile, delicately balanced. Léa Dumayet invites the viewer to experience their tensions. Léa Dumayet’s work constantly oscillates between contradictory notions: fragility and strength, lightness and weight, balance and vertigo, reality and dream, attraction and risk… It is up to the viewer—an active participant—to uncover their hidden meaning. Léa worked together with Venetian glass artisan (perlera) Luna Darin @lunadarin_glassworkshop , as well as with master glassblowers Nicola Moretti and Michael Penna (4Glass) in Murano, to develop a site-specific installation for her solo exhibition CILIA, opening on April 27 alongside Andrea Bordács’ installation EXUVIAE, curated by Anna Shpilko @panamachannel and Elisabeth de Brabant. Seul dure l'air - Léa Dumayet Exposition hors les murs présentée par Artcora, Arts&rencontres et le CACN Commissariat de Marianna De Marzi Élaborée avec l'aide de On est Super Cool et avec le soutien de FIC Du 3 décembre au 14 décembre 2025 à la Chapelle des Jésuites. Le vernissage de l'exposition aura lieu le 3 décembre 2025, à 17h Léa Dumayet investit la Chapelle des Jésuites avec une installation monumentale. Elle transforme ce lieu désacralisé en un espace de respiration suspendu. Des bambous semblent flotter dans l'air, retenus par une trame de câbles métalliques, accrochés à de lourdes pierres calcaires. 🔥 Depuis plusieurs années @leadumayet travaille à Milan avec la Fonderie Campagner @fonderia_campagner_showroom Elle y fait couler sa série de sculpture, faites en cire, « Souffles », en bronze et en laiton.
