More than 2,000 new people have joined this community in less than 7 days, so I figured it was time to properly introduce myself!

Hi, I’m Dr. J, and I make leadership and business easier to understand as a strategist. I have a Ph.D. in Leadership and my research focuses on authentic leadership organizational commitment. My mission is to help leaders and women business owners build strong foundations with practical, research-backed strategies.

I’m a little unconventional. I question the advice everyone else repeats, I don’t believe in gatekeeping, and I value transparency over perfection. You’ll get the wins, the lessons, and the moments that don’t go as planned because that’s what real growth looks like.

Also, there’s a good chance I’m drinking a Coke Zero or cold brew while creating content, in client meetings and workshops!

Some managers spend more time monitoring every little thing their employees do than working on becoming better leaders themselves.

I, on the other hand, believe leadership starts with being willing to look at your own behaviors, recognize where you need to improve, and actually DO something about it.

And I’ve made peace with that honestly. 🙈

Because how can we expect our employees to grow if we aren’t willing to do the same?

Virtual events have made education and networking more accessible, and I LOVE that! But I also think there’s something valuable about getting people in the same room.

Research supports the benefits of face-to-face interactions, especially when it comes to collaboration and generating new ideas.

And that’s something I considered when creating Her Comeback Year 2.0.

I intentionally capped the workshop at 25 women because I want to be able to work WITH attendees, answer questions specific to their businesses, and give them opportunities to learn from each other.

We’re doing a SWOT analysis, looking at how personality influences business decisions, working on 2027 priorities, and having a marketing strategy session.

And yes, we’ll have time for photos because we’re at the Pink Shutter House, after all. 💖

One thing I wish more new managers understood is that an employee constantly coming to you for answers doesn’t automatically mean they lack initiative.

Sometimes they don’t have enough information. Sometimes they’re afraid of making the wrong decision. And sometimes, without realizing it, YOU may have created an environment where employees feel they need your approval for everything.

That’s why the questions you ask matter.

The goal isn’t to make employees figure everything out alone. It’s to help them build confidence, think through problems, and know when they need your support.
