Making you feel less alone on your entrepreneurial journey
ā€œVoted Least Likelyā€ Voted 3rd Best Pod by Georgia Straight BOV ā€˜26šŸ†

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It was an honour to share my story with @canvasrebel

In this interview I shared the beliefs I had to unlearn around success, money, and accepting help.

I was raised to believe that self sufficiency is heroic— but the catch is this: no one gets where they are alone.

Taking responsibility for your life, asking for help, and lifting others up is far more important than ā€œgoing at it aloneā€.

Sending love and encouragement to anyone in the thick of it right nowā¤ļø taken in Leah Yard Designs by @leahyard

Introducing: ✨Friday Failures✨

Head to my IG story to submit a failure you’ve had recently. It can be big or small, every flop counts!

I’m excited to start this tradition and help other entrepreneurs feel less alone.

In this solo episode, I’m sitting down to do my Q4 planning exercise with you. And to take an honest look back at Q3...

Instead of just setting new goals and moving on, I’m revisiting the goals I set for the previous quarter and asking: What did I actually accomplish? What didn’t happen? And why?

It’s a practical look at the less glamorous side of running a business: setting goals, missing some of them, changing course, and continuing anyway.

If you’ve been putting off your own quarterly review, grab a notebook and do this one alongside me.

Because sometimes the most useful thing you can do isn’t to set a BIGGER goal.

It’s stop, look at what actually happened, and decide what you’re going to do next.

Last week I hosted our first-ever LIVE recording of the Voted Least Likely Podcast.

On the morning of the event I was trying to think of an excuse I could make up to cancel it. Some of you may not know this, but speaking in front of an audience (of any size) TERRIFIES me. I used to have such bad anxiety that my face would twitch so much that I couldn’t see straight.

I sweat through two shirts during the day and ended up wearing a blank one that Kyle brought for me (the perks of dating a screen printer) @unimpressedscreenprinting

I was shaking before it started, during, and after.

But I did it.

I chose to do something that scared me, and I chose to have witnessesšŸ˜‰

This is the point. We can change. We can grow. But sometimes we have to put ourselves in situations that force it to happen.

And guess what?

I’m planning on doing it all over again next year🫠

A huge thank-you to the team that made it as easy as it could possibly be: Ryan, Violet @violet.dolejsi, Jenn @jenn_wint, Kyle @unimpressedscreenprinting, Sarah @sarahdarceystyle, and Eliza @elizatrendiak

And to everyone who came out and supported, thank-you so muchšŸ’— taken in Leah Yard Designs by @leahyard

I can’t tell you what an honour it is to see this full-page feature in the @georgiastraight by @vickiduong šŸ’—

I officially launched LYD in 2013, and I assumed I would fail. I was even told I would fail. And to be honest? I kind of did for a while.

I made every mistake you can make. It took years to find my footing in the jewellery world. As a high school drop out, I had no plan B. I just needed to see this thing through.

Fast-forward 13 years and here we are. Still going, still evolving, still making mistakes on the way…

I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement (This feature is especially meaningful because we were also voted 3rd Best Jewellery Brand in Vancouver!)

No one gets to where they are on their own. Thank-you to everyone who has helped us reach this milestone. It would not be possible without you🫶

-Leah, xo

An extra special thank-you to @vickiduong for always cheering on local brands. You are a true gem! by @leahyard

I started the Voted Least Likely Podcast in 2022 because I felt deeply alone in my business. I felt like the only one who was experiencing rejection, failure, and disappointment.

I started with zero intention of growing the show. I never even intended on having guests.

Fast-forward 4 years and we just finished recording our first-ever LIVE episode with two amazing panelists @elizatrendiak and @sarahdarceystyle and the VLL podcast has been named 3rd Best Podcast in Vancouver by the @georgiastraight ✨

I’m amazed at what this has grown into. And I feel like I’m just getting started.

Thank-you for being here and tuning inšŸŽ§ taken in Leah Yard Designs by @leahyard

I am re-airing this episode because Eliza @elizatrendiak will be joining me as a guest at the Voted Least Likely Podcast LIVE Recording on October 7thšŸŽ™ļø

This episode originally aired back in 2024 and it’s been one of the most popular recordings. Link in bio to tune inšŸŽ§

I started Voted Least Likely because I wanted to have the conversations about entrepreneurship that I felt were missing — the rejection, the failures, the pivots, the uncertainty, and all the moments that don’t make it onto social media.

And now I’m bringing the show offline and in-person! For this live recording, I’ll be joined by Sarah D’Arcey @sarahdarceystyle and Eliza Trendiak @elizatrendiak for an honest conversation about ambition, building a career, taking risks, figuring things out as you go, facing rejection, and continuing anyway.

No polished success stories. No pretending we have it all figured out.

Just a really honest conversation with people who have been in the trenches too.

We’re taking Voted Least Likely offline šŸ‘€

On October 7th, I’m bringing the podcast into the Leah Yard Designs studio @leahyarddesigns for a very special LIVE recording.

What if the thing that makes you feel different is actually the thing that makes you interesting?

@leahyard has spent much of her life feeling like a misfit, and I love what she says about embracing that instead of trying to fit yourself into someone else’s idea of who you should be.

Your story doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

You don’t have to think like everyone else.
You don’t have to fit in.
You don’t have to make yourself more palatable.

Especially in a world where so much feels the same, our weirdness, our different perspectives and the things that make us uniquely us are what create real human connection.

The thing you’ve spent years thinking makes you ā€œtoo differentā€ might just be your superpower.

As always, summer somehow blended straight into fall🫠

The good news is I got to wear my favourite @hendriksthebrand suede coat🫶

Nothing much else to report:

ā–«ļøStill leaving myself post-it notes I can’t read
ā–«ļøhad some incredible guests on the podcast lately (stay tuned!)
ā–«ļøstill being influenced by TikTokšŸ
ā–«ļøtook a seaplane for the first time
ā–«ļøand tickets for the LIVE recording of the Voted Least Likely podcast are going fast!

Thanks to everyone who’s coming to listen to myself, @elizatrendiak and @sarahdarceystyle talk about failure, rejection, and continuing anywaysšŸ’Ŗ

Do you really need to niche down?

In this episode, I’m joined by Shelan Markus @shelanu, a multi-faceted entrepreneur, lawyer, artist, and community builder. Shelan is the Executive Director of Level Justice @leveljustice, a national organization focused on justice education and human rights, and the founder of City and She @cityandshe.

Shelan is also the host and founder of How She Made This @howshemadethis, a Vancouver-based talk series that brings together women-identifying, transfeminine, and gender-diverse entrepreneurs, creatives, and leaders to share the real stories, strategies, and experiences behind their work.

We talk about what it looks like to follow your creativity, start before you feel ready, and deal with the very real imposter syndrome that can show up when you’re building something new.

We also get into something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: you can’t do everything yourself forever.

As entrepreneurs, it’s easy to hold onto tasks because we think we’ll do them faster, better, or cheaper ourselves. But eventually, doing everything yourself becomes the thing holding your business back. We talk about the importance of delegating, learning how to let go of some control so you can focus on the parts of the business where you’re actually needed, and making space for your creativity to have a say in where your journey takes you.

Shelan’s own work is rooted in creating connection and sharing the real experiences behind entrepreneurship, which made this conversation feel especially fitting for Voted Least Likely.Ā

A huge thank-you to Shelan for sharing this conversation with me. Link in bio to tune inšŸŽ§ taken in Leah Yard Designs by @leahyard
