Shedding the Shame Live was a success! It has been a hell of a week, and I almost cancelled this event a few times because of the stress happening in my personal life. I’m so glad I didn’t. Being in that room with these wonderful women for 2 hours was exactly what I needed. The connection and support I felt in the room was so healing, and I can’t wait to do this again. Thank you to everyone who came out to my first event. You are so appreciated. Thank you to @leahyard for letting me use her beautiful studio space and to @duchesscocktails for sponsoring drinks for the event. 💕

The only thing better than spending a night with women ready to stop carrying what was never theirs to hold is leaving with something that reminds you of that every day.

Inspired by the @sheddingtheshamepodcast, the evening included breathwork, storytelling, reflection, connection and symbolic release with friendly faces new and familiar supporting one another.

We each took home an @vigilantegifts bracelet as a reminder of the power we have to let go of shame and choose what we carry forward.

Thank you, Tami @hairlosspride, for bringing @sheddingtheshamepodcast to life and letting us be part of such a meaningful night. ❤️

What if the parts of your story that made you feel like you didn’t fit in are actually the parts that make your story worth telling?

That’s something @leahyard and I talked about in this episode of Shedding the Shame.

Leah grew up on a remote lighthouse island, struggled in school, dropped out of high school and eventually built a successful jewelry business. Her path into entrepreneurship was anything but traditional, and for years she carried the shame and imposter syndrome that came with feeling like she didn’t belong.

We talk about failure, comparison, self-doubt, family expectations, the pressure to constantly achieve and what happens when you reach a goal you once dreamed about, only to immediately move the goalposts.

We also talk about something I think so many of us need to hear:

There is no timeline.

You can change. You can start over. You can take a different path. You can be behind. You can be different.

Maybe the thing you’ve spent years thinking makes you an outsider is actually the thing that makes people connect with you.

When I asked Leah what shedding the shame means to her, her answer was simple: owning your story.

We tend to think confidence comes first and success follows.

You feel confident → you take action → things start working out.

Except, that’s usually not how it works.

In my conversation with @leahyard she shared that the doubt never really goes away. What changes is what you do while you’re doubting yourself.

For years, Leah spent a lot of time learning. Reading about business. Watching YouTube. Listening to podcasts. Trying to figure out how to get better.

Meanwhile, she wasn’t actually taking much action.

Eventually she realized: if you want to build confidence, you have to get in the ring.

You have to try things, make mistakes, and get your hands dirty. Sometimes you’ll look like an idiot, but you’ll also figure things out as you go.

Every time you do something you weren’t sure you could do, you have a little more evidence that you can handle it.

I really loved this conversation because I think so many of us are waiting to feel confident before we put ourselves out there.

Maybe confidence isn’t the prerequisite; maybe it’s the result.

What if the parts of your story you’ve spent years trying to hide are actually the parts that make you most relatable?

In my conversation with @leahyard we talked about what happens when you stop trying to fit in and start being honest about who you are and what you’ve lived through.

Leah shared that once she became more open about the parts of her story she used to keep private, something shifted. Instead of worrying about being judged or misunderstood, she found herself connecting with people on a much more human level.

I think there’s something really powerful in that.

We spend so much time trying to present the polished version of ourselves, when sometimes it’s the messy, complicated, imperfect parts that create the deepest connection.

You don’t need a glamorous story.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You don’t need to hide the things that make you different.

Your story is your story. Maybe the parts you’ve been trying hardest to hide are the very things that make people say, “Oh, me too.”

🎙️ My conversation with Leah Yard of Leah Yard Designs drops tomorrow on Shedding the Shame.

What if the thing that makes you feel different is actually the thing that makes you interesting?

@leahyard has spent much of her life feeling like a misfit, and I love what she says about embracing that instead of trying to fit yourself into someone else’s idea of who you should be.

Your story doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

You don’t have to think like everyone else.
You don’t have to fit in.
You don’t have to make yourself more palatable.

Especially in a world where so much feels the same, our weirdness, our different perspectives and the things that make us uniquely us are what create real human connection.

The thing you’ve spent years thinking makes you “too different” might just be your superpower.

We’re taking the Voted Least Likely podcast offline 👀

On October 7th, we’re bringing the podcast into the Leah Yard Designs studio @leahyarddesigns for a very special LIVE recording.

I started Voted Least Likely because I wanted to have the conversations about entrepreneurship that I felt were missing — the rejection, the failures, the pivots, the uncertainty, and all the moments that don’t make it onto social media.

For this live recording, I’ll be joined by Sarah D’Arcey @sarahdarceystyle and Eliza Trendiak @elizatrendiak for an honest conversation about ambition, building a career, taking risks, figuring things out as you go, facing rejection, and continuing anyway.

No polished success stories. No pretending we have it all figured out.

Just a really honest conversation with people who have been in the trenches too.

October 7th · 6–9 PM

Come hang out, listen in, and maybe leave feeling a little less alone in your own journey.

I’ll moderate your panel anytime, baby. 🎤

Cause we all know I like a good brief, a hot panel, and being in charge! 😏

But seriously, moderating the Business of Influence panel event was one of my work highlights of the summer. I had missed recording @brandedassets in the off season, so when @haleyymac asked me to be involved after a suggestion from @jenn_wint, I jumped at the idea!

Thank you to @leahyard for hosting in her lovely space @leahyarddesigns, and to @itsdanielleryan, @encinolaw, and @haleyymac for sharing countless insights with our audience! What a wonderful evening.

I loved connecting with you all in the crowd!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
