This picture is ten years old today. I can hardly believe it has been that long and even harder to believe it has been almost 16 years since the first day I laid eyes on her. They say a picture is worth a thousand words…this one says so many to me. The four months before this picture I was living in Haiti grasping at every straw to bring her home. There are so many of you not pictured that made this possible. Financially, emotionally, and prayerfully…we couldn’t have made it without you. There was so much sacrifice. However, just as God always does, He has used every bit of it for His good. I didn’t see that sometimes in those years or in certain moments of complete disappointment and heartbreak, but now as I sit in my morning chair reminiscing, I can see His hand in every single detail big and small. Natasha Joy, you are so brave, beautiful, loving, and a gift we never expected. There was a time I prayed to forget how hard those six years to bring you home were, but now I am
grateful for them because you are a reminder every day of God’s faithfulness and His loving kindness. Happy “Gotcha Day” our sweet Natasha Joy. ♥️ by @leanintoredemption

Another turn of the page to a new chapter as we celebrated Ellie graduating from Southeastern University. So very excited about her new opportunity to continue doing what she loves at Beach Church Jax as the BeachKid Coordinator. Last year, around this time, a sparrow happened to build a nest in one of our planters in our backyard. I loved every minute watching the parents build the nest, seeing the eggs in the nest, hearing the babies chirping while being fed, and then feeling sad when they flew away. I had read that these birds would often return to the same spot to build again and I was beyond thrilled when they did! I had given up hope because we moved the planter, but they found it and a nest holding two eggs is being tended to as I write.

For some reason, I am more emotional about this nesting process this year. Perhaps it is because it reminds me of the process from when my children were little. I remember ‘nesting’ as the arrival of each one got close and trying to make sure things were in place. Maybe I am feeling this way as we prepare to celebrate our daughter’s college graduation today. Time moves so fast and with it comes change, a little sadness, but also joy.
