The Situation (3/3)

I entered the Biennale project during this last week of horrible October. During this time, I created horrific videos for explanation channels, and almost every night, I dreamt of being in one war or another. As Ruth and I started out, I immediately sensed the feminine and anti-war side of the work. I felt it would lead to a healthy growth. We didn't yet know how the work, which is very personal and sensitive in nature, would adapt to the situation.

Producing a large body of work in a short time during wartime puts us in a sensitive state of mind where we understand that we are "just gonna do what we can". We worked amidst rocket fire, with meetings beginning with news updates. Each team member had a personal connection to the events happening outside. We were there during harsh news from the frontlines, the first refugee agreement, protests, and the devastating news from Gaza. The mere existence of our work kept us sane. It gave us a common purpose and reason to continue in an impossible reality.

I stand proud of Ruth, Tamar, and Mira's decision not to open the Pavilion. Once the opening was more of a news event than an artistic one, it couldn't handle it any other way. It took me a moment to realize this after such hard work, but the truth is, we always felt that this moment was more significant than us. Israel is also waiting for an agreement, and open dialogue requires the right moment for listening. by @leanna.ber

The Team (2/3)

First, it was my pleasure and honor to meet @ruthpatir (as Aya, the gynecologist, said in the work), who burst into my life like a storm of wisdom, honesty, and fun. It's so rare to meet artists who practice the art field through such deep research and fun attitude —a documentarian in today's most sophisticated sense. You taught me so much during this time, expanding my understanding of the gap between image and documentary text. I'd be happy to be like you when I grow up.

@yonatanwas , talented and sensitive, through whom I found myself in this adventure, created over 60 minutes of animation with his own hands and led an international team under his hands, paying attention to the most minor and most significant details. He's my best friend on set, making my day much better with his morning phone calls.

@shamota @3sisters3000 Daniel, the sweet genius, the work reached insane heights of visual achievement with your guidance, producing breathtaking scenes and leading a fantastic team under him. I've never worked with anyone like you, a genius magician who is so wise in creating lighting and atmosphere. I'm sure many more adventures await us.

@noasimhayofshahaf and @kinar.dar were there to edit countless hours of material collected by Ruth over the years and turn those recordings into a story—Noa, thanks for your endless thoughts, creating scenes full of rhythm, form, and color.

@yuvalkatz._ , who made the work much more polished and accurate. Your creativity and partnership were essential to me. Thanks for paying attention to every detail, both in the catalog and on the website.

@danameirson diligently documented everything and provided unwavering support, assistance, and understanding throughout the project.

@zoepolanski and @rei_elbaz , thank you for all the sessions with Ruth. The sound you both created is magical and precise.

Big Producers, Miki and Maya, who supported me from day one.

And last but not least, I want to thank the fantastic woman I was so lucky to meet - @yaelpatir You taught me so much about project management, initiative, determination, and perseverance, and were always there for me throughout this journey. by @leanna.ber

In Motherland, the new project by @ruthpatir , which is currently waiting behind lock and sign at the 60th Venice Biennale, we've produced over 120 minutes of animation. This incredible feat, equivalent to a feature-length animation in just half a year, is a testament to our team's relentless dedication and passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries of content and technology. I am grateful for the opportunity to manage and coordinate this stunning project's production.

In the project, there are Over 60 minutes of documentary animation of Ruth injecting hormones - an intense and immersive animation work, just like the hormone injection experience itself. It is a half-hour animation film that includes scenes pushing the boundaries of the documentary genre, unlike many works before it. "Petah Tikva," Ruth's legendary work, has been upgraded. It now features female figurines waiting in a fertility clinic surrounded by TVs and iPhones streaming live news. A short documentary scene of Ruth visiting her fertility doctor, where she appears as a fertility figurine. And "Keening" is the only video work one could glimpse from the outside of the Israeli pavilion - a video work demonstrating and protest of the broken female figurines.

I also had the honor to handle the exhibition catalog with insightful essays by Tamar Margalit, Mira Lapidot, Dr. Keren Goldberg, Dr.Noam Gal and Professor Eva Illuse delve into themes like Feminist Technology, Judean pillar figurines, personal perspectives on BRCA and fertility treatments in Israel, and Social media over-sharing. The catalog features unique images and designs, so try to get yourself a copy.
Mira, Tamar, Ian, Field Day Studio, Thanks for thinking deeply about every detail for the ability of a project to contain so many ideas, to take such a large body of work, write it, and create it so excitingly.

@wix @yotamano thank for wonderful collaboration in creating a stunning website for Ruth's works. I'm grateful to have been part of this process and eagerly anticipate the unveiling of our creations at the Biennale. by @leanna.ber

I am extremely grateful to @noamielavie for giving me the chance to explore the story of Tatiana Hankin. I was fortunate enough to create a painting of Tatiana for the film poster. With every moment of the film, I learned more about her story, and with every brush stroke, I fell more in love with her. See you in @docaviv taken in Tel Aviv, Israel by @leanna.ber
