I cannot fully express how grateful I am to @carisahendrix / @lucydarlingmagic for sharing a picture of my kiddos artwork that they gave to Carisa/Lucy when we saw them live in Grand Rapids! Ivy was so nervous, but Lucy was so welcoming & kind that Ivy opened right up. It can be hard sometimes for neurodivergent kids especially (I know from experience with having it myself), but Lucy is just amazing! We are beyond grateful for that moment to help Ivy find more confidence in themselves with their art & I believe made a new core memory! Thank you Carisa & Lucy for this unforgettable moment! Also huge thank you to the Crewcy for working so hard to keep everything running so smoothly!

47 feels pretty good, not going to lie! I truly never thought I'd make it this far, and so very glad I have! Thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes today! I've seen people say, “No woman I know has ever had something like that happen to her.”

If you know me, you do.

I was m0le$ted as a child. I have been r@ped and SA'd as an adult. I have experienced s3xu@l harassment and degrading comments from people more times than I could possibly count.

For a very long time, I carried shame about those things. I don't anymore. The shame was never mine to carry.

I also didn't go to the police. Sometimes I was scared. Sometimes I was embarrassed. Sometimes I blamed myself. When I was a child, I didn't have the ability to advocate for myself, and by the time I did, too much time had passed.

I am not sharing this because I want sympathy. I'm sharing it because when someone says, “I don't know anyone this has happened to,” what they may actually mean is, “No one has ever told me.”

There is a difference.

Survivors are your friends. Your coworkers. Your neighbors. Your family members. They are people you laugh with, have dinner with, work beside and pass in the grocery store. Many of them have simply never told you what happened to them.

And when survivors watch the way another person who says she was assaulted is picked apart, mocked, blamed, investigated by strangers, or immediately assumed to be lying, we notice.

We remember why we were afraid to say anything.

You don't have to know someone's story to create a world in which they would feel safe telling it.

So, if you've ever thought you don't know someone who has experienced s3xu@l vi0l3nce:

Last night Joe and I had the honor of attending the Play Soleil fundraiser for THE PLAYGROUNDgr, and what a night it was! 🎪✨

If you haven't heard of THE PLAYGROUNDgr, it is a nonprofit organization working to support mental and emotional wellness in our community through play therapy, community events, workshops, and so much more. Their amazing work has already touched so many lives, and hopefully will continue to do so for many many years! If you have a moment, please check them out, whether you're able to donate, share their information with others, or simply learn more about the resources they provide. You never know who might need exactly what they offer. ❤️

The event itself was incredible. Everyone looked absolutely beautiful in their circus-inspired attire, and there was such a fun, welcoming energy under the big top. And Joe and I cleaned up pretty well too, if I do say so myself! 😉🎪

More than anything, it was such an honor to be there supporting my friend of 35 years, Susan. She is one of the most selfless people I know, and I am continually inspired by how much of herself she gives to helping others. Seeing what she and everyone involved with THE PLAYGROUNDgr are creating for this community makes me incredibly proud of her. ❤️

I also had the chance to meet some fantastic people who are doing meaningful things throughout our community. There was something really special about being surrounded by so many people who genuinely care about making life a little better for others.

And, of course, there were some phenomenal circus performers! One of them is someone I've followed and been friends with online for years, so finally getting to see her perform in person was especially exciting for me!

Beautiful people, incredible performances, a meaningful cause, and a whole lot of circus magic. 🎪✨

Definitely a night Joe and I won't forget. ❤️

Today is World Heart Day, and every year this day gives me another reason to celebrate my favorite Heart Warrior Ivy. Ivy has always been unique since the beginning and it is just one of the things we love in our warrior! 💚

Before Ivy was born we learned that they have a unique heart, CCTGA/LTGA. The most simple way I can explain it, is the arteries and ventricles are switched around. So the part the typically pumps to the body, pumps to the lungs and vice versa. And this is a testament to who Ivy is, someone who finds their own way in life and walks to the beat of their own drum, and I wouldn’t want Ivy any other way.

We have been very lucky as Ivy has not needed a surgery or major medical interventions. But, as most people with a CHD, it means cardiology appointments, tests, scans, monitoring, questions and even fears about the future , something most kids never have to think about. Ivy handles it with a strength that I do not know if I could have if in the same position.

This is one of the main reasons awareness matters so much with CHD’s, us knowing about Ivy’s heart means we can watch it, pay attention to it and do everything in our power to make informed decisions and choices. And because of incredible advances in cardiology, science, and medicine, kids born with hearts like Ivy's have possibilities that generations before them didn't have.

So today isn't a day when I want to focus on everything that could happen.
I want to celebrate the heart beating inside one of the most creative, caring, funny, wonderfully unique people I have ever known.

A heart that may be built a little differently... but belongs to a warrior who has never needed to be anything other than exactly who they are. 💚

Happy World Heart Day to my incredible Heart Warrior.

Keep beating to your own rhythm, Ivy. 💚
