Honoured to have been selected as a finalist for the inaugural Sozzani Award, Women: Design & Craft, presented by @fondazionesozzani during Milan Fashion Week.

A special opportunity to share my ongoing research into material transformation and experimental construction, alongside a selection of new pieces from LIQUID DISTORTION, SSFW27.

Through cutting, perforation and reassembly, leather is transformed into new surfaces and structures, challenging its conventional properties. Offcuts are retained and reintroduced into the development process, allowing one construction to generate the material for another.

Developed as an evolving body of work, LIQUID DISTORTION explores the relationship between material, technique and silhouette, moving beyond the conventional division between seasons.

A heartfelt thank you to @saramaino_, @carlasozzani and the entire jury, @galib.gassanoff, @veronicaleoni, @kris.ruhs, @oliviersaillard and @fabricepaineau, for this recognition and the opportunity to present my work.

Special congratulations to this year’s winner @timisolashasanya and fellow finalist @maisuzki. It was a pleasure to share this experience with you both.

LECAVALIER SSFW27 — Publication by Mathieu Huppé

Conceived for the first Sozzani Awards in Milan, this publication was developed alongside the LECAVALIER SSFW27 collection as a way of documenting and extending the research behind the work.

Material experiments, leather trials, textures and techniques are brought together with fragments from personal and studio archives. Through Mathieu Huppé’s vision, these elements are observed, repeated and abstracted, creating a visual language around the processes and references that shaped the collection.

Material research has always been at the core of LECAVALIER. This publication offers a glimpse into that process: where experimentation, construction and memory become part of the work itself.

The first edition of the award is dedicated to women’s empowerment supporting a female creative or entrepreneur with the @veuveclicquot Veuve Clicquot Design & Craft Scholarship For Women.

MARIE-ÈVE LECAVALIER
Paris-based Canadian designer whose practice spans leather, textiles, and objects. Combining craftsmanship with material research and experimental construction, she creates sculptural works that challenge traditional notions of value, luxury, and art by reintroducing offcuts into new materials.
