On this Labour Day, we're proud to celebrate the real women whose courage inspired Kristen Da Silva's "Sisters of '78."

This summer, a few of the women who stood on that picket line forty-eight years ago came to Blyth’s Memorial Hall and watched their own story unfold on the Margaret Stephens Stage. Working women who were threatened, faced intimidation, who got arrested, or faced worse at the end of a police baton, who were laughed at, yelled at, all for wanting a safer workplace, a better wage, a clean bathroom and a boss who kept his hands to himself.

Folks laughed, folks cheered, a few folks needed a tissue. That doesn't happen by accident.

So to the real sisters of '78, to everybody who built this play, to everybody who bought a ticket and showed up — thank you.

"Sisters of '78" is heading to Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, where it runs from Sep. 30 to Oct 18
