ā€œUntil Every Barrier Fallsā€ a poem by LeDerick Horne (www.lederick.com) - I’m honored to release this poem in October as we recognize Dyslexia Awareness Month and Disability Employment Awareness Month; in 2020 as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and during a era in our history when we are all confronting racism’s lasting legacy.

[Video Description - Video begins with LeDerick Horne, a Black man with long locks in a ponytail wearing a blue dress shirt, reciting this poem into a standing microphone with the United States Capitol building in the background. Cutaway to footage of public buses being blocked by protesters in wheelchairs, and cutaway to footage from the Capital Crawl and Rotunda protest. Next scene is LeDerick continuing to recite his poem in front of the remains of the Albert Pike Memorial showing where Pike’s statue has been removed. Cutaway to footage of a night time protest on the street outside the White House. People are seen holding signs saying ā€œBlack Lives Matter.ā€ Closing scene is LeDerick walking to a standing microphone positioned in the middle of an empty street in Washington, DC. On the street are large yellow letters spelling ā€œBlack Lives Matter.ā€ After finishing the poem, LeDerick turns away from the camera and walks down the street towards the White House. Credits run on the screen as follows while LeDerick walks away: Until Every Barrier Falls, Written and Performed by LeDerick Horne www.lederick.com, Director |Editor Justin Woo @justinwooctl , Music by Sekou Davis @papakou , Audio Mixer Samyukta Mahendra @samyuktamahendra , Capital Crawl and Rotunda Protest Footage by Linda Litowsky, Special Thanks to Stephanie K. ā€œNationwide — In a compelling new episode of the Literacy Now, Together miniseries, a collaboration between Fulcrum and Parents for Reading Justice, Winifred A. Winston and LeDerick Horne (co-hosts of the acclaimed Black and Dyslexic podcast) share candid insights into the realities of dyslexia for Black children and families.ā€œ

Horne added: ā€œThis work is about shifting culture, expectations, and power dynamics in education so parents can turn IEPs and evaluations into true tools for success.ā€

@blackliteracymatters_official Black Literacy Matters’ annual conference is a MUST for advocates and educators who care about making a meaningful difference in the lives of Black families and Black children.

It was great to do a live recording of the @blackanddyslexic podcast! Our session title was ā€œUnmuted: Black Men, Dyslexia, and the Power of Naming the Truth.ā€ And the youth panel Winifred and I got to facilitate was one of the highlights of the event. This conference is where I go to really be in community with my dyslexic brothers and sisters - Thank you to @ladyclaricejackson for your vision and your leadership in making this event possible.

This is the third annual conference, and it just keeps getting better. If you haven’t attended, you definitely need to come next year!

I visited four different states in February, and I am grateful my last talk was in Lansing, Michigan. Many thanks to the organizers of the Michigan Transition Services Association’s conference. MTSA always puts on a great event, and I deeply appreciate being asked back to give a keynote. taken in Lansing, Michigan by @lederickhorne

I want to #spotlight an incredible #dyslexia #advocate across the pond who is doing phenomenal work through her podcast Black & Dyslexic with #LeDerick #Horne and wider advocacy.

As someone who once felt broken by the education system and struggled to believe in herself, being recognised as a Hero advocating for change does not always feel easy.

Thank you to @soallcanread Winifred A. Winston, M.S., HRD and Logan West for the Dyslexia Word Search Book for Adults, Teens & Children I love crosswords, and this really celebrates dyslexic strengths.

To be recognised alongside changemakers like @lederickhorne LeDerick Horne, Dr @dr.tracyjohnson Tracy Johnson-Rockmore , and @doctor_dyslexia_dude Shawn Robinson is truly humbling.

Dyslexia advocacy is about more than awareness it’s about real change.

This morning I had the opportunity to give the opening keynote at this year’s Student Success & Retention Conference. Sponsored by the Oregon Council for Student Services Administrators (CSSA), the Student Success & Retention Conference (SSRC) is designed for community college and university student affairs professionals. Focused on best practices to support student success, the conference provides great opportunities to connect with colleagues, identify upcoming trends, and gain the skills needed to meet the future needs of students. taken in Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel by @lederickhorne
