POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

My article, “A Reflection on Growing Up With Hyperacusis,” has been published in the Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews.

In it, I share what it was like to grow up with severe hyperacusis.
For years, my pain was misunderstood. I was repeatedly forced to undergo sound exposure and desensitization therapies that worsened my pain

This article reflects on those experiences and why it is important for medical professionals, therapists, educators, etc to listen to children.
People with hyperacusis deserve to be taken seriously and not be forced to undergo sound exposure.

My hope is to educate the medical world and prevent other children from going through what I did.
I’m grateful that Generation Patient and JPCRR gave me this opportunity.
You can read the full article @hyperacusiss_awareness linktree
Please read and share this article to raise awareness. If you are having difficulty accessing it feel free to message me.

Affiliation note: The journal lists Brown University Health Cancer Institute with my name because of my coauthor’s affiliation. I am not employed by or formally affiliated with Brown University Health; this was the journal’s designation.

Two years ago today a gentle reminder of a #conversation that still #matters 💛

Much of this #advocacy work happens #quietly, in the background. That’s why #community and village matter so we remember we are not alone in this work, especially as dyslexia advocates across the pond.

Grateful for the continued connection and support from Kamille Bostick, and for being part of a phenomenal panel during Literacy, Reading, Neurodivergence and Our Students with the Daily Border Crossings podcast during Black History Month.

So honoured to share space with:

@lederickhorne LeDerick Horne — poet, advocate, and voice for people who learn differently

Resha Conroy, MPA, MS, CCC-SLP — founder of the Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children

Let’s continue to change the narrative — together.

Gratitude 🙏🏾

I want to #spotlight an incredible #dyslexia #advocate across the pond who is doing phenomenal work through her podcast Black & Dyslexic with #LeDerick #Horne and wider advocacy.

As someone who once felt broken by the education system and struggled to believe in herself, being recognised as a Hero advocating for change does not always feel easy.

Thank you to @soallcanread Winifred A. Winston, M.S., HRD and Logan West for the Dyslexia Word Search Book for Adults, Teens & Children I love crosswords, and this really celebrates dyslexic strengths.

To be recognised alongside changemakers like @lederickhorne LeDerick Horne, Dr @dr.tracyjohnson Tracy Johnson-Rockmore , and @doctor_dyslexia_dude Shawn Robinson is truly humbling.

Dyslexia advocacy is about more than awareness it’s about real change.
