For a while now I’ve been toying with this idea of doing a little EP full of fun, crazy good cover tunes, à la @margaret_glaspy’s Golden Heart Protector. However I don’t personally know Madison Cunningham or Norah Jones for guest vocals so it’s just me in my living room on an iPad for this one (sorry about that).

I stumbled back across the @bonnieraittofficial song today and was reminded how it might be one of the finest songs ever written on the loss of meaningful love. I’d listened to it a lot when I wrote my song ‘Water In My Hands’, and it only just occurred to me the impact it had on that process.

Everything about this song is perfect and I was having so much fun playing it I thought I’d bang it up here for you fine folks to ignore/listen to 8seconds of, as is your prerogative. Listening back I realise I choke the lyric in the pre-chorus but hey nobody’s perfect okay.

First of all handful of these vids, hopefully with better production value as we move forward, eh? by @leebroderick

What an absolutely barmy experience Race To The Stones turned out to be. 50k of lumpy trails in 30 degree heat is not to be trifled with. Id never considered a transcendental experience would be part of my future, but im fairly sure I went through one on Sunday.

We laughed, we cried, we went a bit loopy for the 15k of complete solitude on the course around 2/3rds in (see picture 3 for pictorial evidence).

Calling it ‘hard’ feels like the understatement of a lifetime but good gravy what an utterly incredible thing to experience. If you’re intrigued by ultras I would heartily recommend it - you’ll train harder and run harder than you ever thought possible, but you learn things about yourself you never would have discovered without it. I’ll be back for more (maybe after a few nice flat road marathons first tho).

Big thanks to @codybamfordphotography for some rare examples of photos where I don’t look like I’ve been surprised on my own doorstep at 7am.

Taken on a fun shoot with some fun friends last month. More on that in the coming weeks. by @leebroderick

A grid post for this last race of the year: almost a calendar year to the day, I put up my best ever 10k time, a 58:40. I can’t quite get my head around dropping near 15mins from that time in 12months, but here we are. 43:44 and a big ol’ early Christmas present of a PB thank you very much.

The wonderful @runningcoach_andy told me to leave it all out there today, and I think it’s safe to say I did. I love this sport and all it continues to give me: the space and freedom it helps me find in my mind and my body. I’m on cloud 9. What an early Christmas present.

One day I’m sure I’ll do a race where I’m not piss wet through by the finish, but hey, baby steps. taken in Castle Combe Circuit by @leebroderick

This Christmas, I’ll be returning to open the bill for my dear friend and musical spirit animal @leddra at @pizzaexpresslive Holborn. I can’t bloody wait, and I’d love you to join us.

Aged 16, Leddra and I were introduced to one another as young, insanely impressionable artists in roughly the same boat. From that point nearly 20 years ago (Christ), our careers and lives have taken many unpredictable turns, but we’ve always remained in each others’ corner in one form or another. Touring together, travelling together. Celebrating and commiserating together.

Music can be an exhaustingly fickle space to occupy. Friendships you believe to be meaningful can turn out transactional, utilised as currency. It’s all part of the deal, and you have to learn to become okay with it to some extent. But I’m unsure there’s anyone else in music who has trusted me, believed in my ability, and generally had my back as completely as her.

We’ve shared some genuinely, head-spinningly insane moments together. Literally too many to name. There’s much I would change about my early musical career, but meeting Leddra was one of the true, great blessings of my life - a friendship that makes the whole journey worthwhile.

I’m so psyched to join her onstage once more. You’ll find a ticket link in my bio, if you’re so inclined. by @leebroderick

@runningcoach_andy told me I could run this time about three days ago. I didn’t *not* believe him, but I also didn’t entirely believe him, if you get me.

Turns out he was right, as always. 13.1 of your best English miles round the stunningly beautiful Westonbirt Arboretum, a thorough soaking from the storms, and a big Ol’ PB thank you very much, all adds up to another picture of me made up and piss wet through in a field.

How good is running though seriously. taken in Westonbirt Arboretum - Forestry England by @leebroderick

Couple of self-indulgent pics from yesterday’s fun in the deluge. Pic Two is in-the-moment realisation I’d smashed my PB by 11 bloody minutes.

Still buzzing. Thanks to @relishrunning for a fab day.

I bloody love running you know. taken in Wye Valley by @leebroderick

What a bloody delight that half round Wye Valley was! Absolutely hacked it down for the first 10k, with a periodical pause through the railway tunnels before getting soaked again.

Felt brilliant from mile 1: the watch was useless with the tunnels so ran to effort and the result was a PB by a scarcely believable 11 minutes.

That’s a time that’s mostly down to @runningcoach_andy for his mentorship, stewardship, and general all-round Jedi master-like qualities. What an absolute legend he is.

Here’s to the next one 😎 taken in The Wye Valley by @leebroderick

For many reasons, I kinda stepped away from playing shows over the last few years. After a couple of decades of life that were pretty much defined by gigging, it was a weird, but at first welcome, experience.

I’ve missed it deeply though. And it’s so much more satisfying to step back in with my boys there to watch me do it. I can’t fully describe what it means to see them looking at me from an audience, but it means the world. And on some level, it makes me quietly excited for the prospect of maybe doing the same for them one day.

Oh and if you want me to come and do these slightly awkward stage moves for you or your friends, I’m back open for business 😎. by @leebroderick

Some more self indulgent shots from yesterday’s marathon madness. Feeling sore but joyous today.

Thanks again to all who donated. You’re heroes.

There’s still time to throw a little spare change in the coffers if you can! Link is in bio. taken in TCS London Marathon by @leebroderick

Eight hours out from crossing the finish line and I’m still struggling to wrap my head around that experience today.

The weather felt like it was sent to push everyone out there to the limit. The sun bearing down, the sweat pouring off. The bliss of the cold showers and ice in your cap every few miles. Running toward every tiny crevice of shade on the course. Scores of incredible runners stretchered off. It was WILD.

But the crowds. Man. The crowds! It was a rush I’d only ever experienced in the best shows I’ve played. It felt like a hand at your back at times, pushing you through the pain cave, beckoning you west toward The Mall.

This has been a real journey, this one. This time last year I was about 6 stone heavier than I am today. I shed that weight so I had it in me to stand on that start line this morning, and feel capable of crossing the finish line roughly four hours later.

We also, all of us, together, raised £7600 for @pancreaticcanuk, going some small way to honour the memory of @jessicacbroderick’s remarkable, irreplaceable Grandmother, Carolyne.

Sorry for the long post. But to finish off - if you’re ever given the chance to do this race, grab it with both hands. It greedily devours all of you and then graciously gives you so much more in return.
