I’m so proud to share my new children’s book about autism.

It was created to help kids and families understand and embrace differences. 💙

This is only the first step of many.

My dream is for Bubble Talk to become a resource for nurseries, reading groups, and families everywhere.

I want it to help friends and relatives understand that some people communicate differently. I want kids to think, to ask questions, and to see the world in a more understanding way.

In just a few days I’ve already received the most heartfelt messages.

People have told me they’ve been in tears, and parents have shared how their children are asking questions they’ve never asked before.

I’ve never been prouder.

This reel might not go far but I am pinning it to my page as a reminder of where this journey began. Any support you give... a like, comment, or share would mean the world and help this reach more people who need it.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.

This is just the beginning and I truly hope it grows into something huge.

Autism family's true reality

Mason's behaviours have really spiked over the last couple of days, and I think a lot of autism parents will understand how being stuck in the house can sometimes make things even harder.

So today we decided to take him somewhere SEND-friendly. Somewhere he could burn off some energy, and where we wouldn't have to worry as much about people staring or judging.

We thought it might help him.

But we lasted 15 minutes. Maximum.

Sometimes, no matter how much you plan or how hard you try, things just don't work out.

That's our reality sometimes. 💙

Anyone else have days like this?

Autism & food struggles... 💙

We get comments all the time saying, "Just get him to try this" or "If he gets hungry enough, he'll eat."

It really isn't that simple.

Mason has a very small number of safe foods, and although he's recently surprised us by trying a few new things, that's incredibly rare.

If he suddenly stops eating one of his safe foods, we're left with even fewer options, and that can become a serious worry.

For some autistic children, sensory issues around food, textures, smells and tastes can make eating incredibly difficult.

I'm sure a lot of autism parents watching this know exactly what I mean. 💙

Autism & Gestalt Language Processing (GLP)

My son is non-verbal autistic, and his spoken communication is very limited.

He's also a Gestalt Language Processor, which means he learns and communicates using chunks of language he's heard before, often from TV shows, songs or videos.

Today, he heard a TikTok I was watching and his response completely caught me off guard. 😂

Moments like these remind me he's always listening, even when you don't realise it. 🤣🤣

Autism & fixations... 💙

Mason has been obsessed with Japan lately. It's pretty much all he's been talking about.

So we decided to take him to a local Asian supermarket to see if we could find some Japanese snacks and drinks.

And it went exactly how I imagined!

The reality for autism families... 💙

Most people only see a few seconds of our day.

They don't see the planning, the anxiety, the meltdowns, the cancellations or the constant adapting.

And even when they do see it, they compare it to their own experiences.

But that's the thing...

Autism is different. 💙

My non-verbal autistic son conned me... 😂💙

Mason will happily agree to go somewhere...

Then somehow manages to get out of doing the bit he doesn't want to do. 😅

I honestly think he knows a lot more than he lets on.

Autism & birthdays... 💙

I think a lot of autism parents will understand this.

Birthdays don't always look how people expect

No big parties. No busy soft plays. No house full of family. Presents go unopened...

Even when you plan everything around your child, it can still become too much.

So yeah... birthdays aren't always the best day for us autism parents.

Autism families and birthdays

Mason's 13th birthday today.

And if I'm honest... birthdays are one of the hardest days of the year for us.

Don't get me wrong, we'll celebrate. We'll make sure he has a lovely day and he'll enjoy it. That's all that really matters.

But birthdays have a way of reminding me just how different autism has made our family life.

Before you have children, you don't even realise you're creating these little pictures in your head. Birthday parties, friends coming round, everyone singing Happy Birthday, tearing into presents because they can't wait to see what's inside.

But as the years go by, you realise that just isn't your reality.

There is no party's

Presents can sit there for days unopened, and even once they're opened they can sit there for weeks because it's all just too much.

Sometimes you've spent weeks trying to plan a birthday around their needs... and it still falls flat.

Like today.

And that's hard.

Because I wish he could experience birthdays the way I remember experiencing mine.

I think that's probably one of the hardest things for me to admit.

But even after a failed day.. as usual, Mason asked for chicken nuggets, chips, a drink and now hes sat stimming away at his PC...

So that's exactly what we're going to do.. all day!

Because if that's his perfect birthday...

that's exactly the birthday he should have.

I just wanted to share an honest feeling... sometimes it's easier to write these things than try to say them out loud.

And I have a feeling there are a lot of autism parents reading this who'll understand exactly what I mean.

Anyway...

Happy 13th birthday, mate.

I hope one day you read this and know that every decision I've made, every battle I've fought and every change I've made in my life has always been because I wanted yours to be a little happier, a little safer and a little easier.

You changed my life for the better..

And I couldn't be prouder to be your dad.

Love you son

Autism... it's not always what people think.

People's perception of autism often focuses on the challenges, and yes, they're very real.

But autism is a spectrum, and there are beautiful sides to it too.

Mason has no filter, but that also means his happiness is genuine, his excitement is contagious, and his love is completely unconditional.

The challenges can be bigger...

But so can the beautiful moments.

That's the side of autism I wish more people got to see.

Autism and obsessions...

Autism and ADHD can be a unique combination.

Mason becomes completely hyperfocused on something until it consumes his whole world.

Then, once he's had that "fix," he moves on to the next thing.

It's a constant cycle of finding the next interest that brings him that same excitement and happiness.

Today was one of those days!
