How do we capture a moment in time? What can images tell us about memory and perception?

First year students in the “What is Reality?” class created cyanotype images after learning about the history of photography and the science of human memory.

Working with this camera-less form of photography shows the intersection of art and psychology and enriches our understanding of reality, showing that both memory and images are unique constructions of our experiences.

Professor Almut Hupbach (Psychology) and Professor of Practice William Crow (Art, Architecture and Design) designed and co-teach What is Reality?  Students interrogate this timeless question through art and museum experiences, exploration of cognitive processes and underlying brain mechanisms, and hands-on experiential learning.

This course is one of several first-year seminars in the College of Arts and Sciences focused on Big Questions, an initiative that supports enhanced interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research at Lehigh. Four students sit outdoors near Taylor Gym, Zoellner Arts Center and Rauch Business Center at Lehigh University on a wooden bench beneath the shade of large, leafy trees on a sunny day. A paved walkway curves past the bench, leading toward a green hillside lawn. Text overlays read "CLASS OF 2030," "PHOTO ROLL 10/26 LOCAL TIME 10:00 ROUTE TYPE: CLASS," and "FIRST YEAR SEMINAR: WHAT IS REALITY?" taken in Lehigh University by @lehighalumni

We're adding names to the stone benches at Leadership Plaza as we recognize the newest inductees to the 1865 Society!
Joining those honored in previous years, these generous people are recognized for lifetime giving at the $1M, $10M, and $20M levels. Next time you walk past, take a closer look. Names with special gold inlays signify gifts of $10 million and above.
Built in 1994 on the east side of the Alumni Memorial Building, Leadership Plaza encircles the Lehigh seal and the bronze statue of founder Asa Packer. Together they symbolize the enduring spirit shaping Lehigh’s future.
Let’s celebrate our newest inductees as their names take their rightful place alongside Lehigh's greatest supporters!

When Jacalyn ’75 and Ronald ’75 Askin met at Lehigh 50 years ago, they couldn't have predicted the lifelong impact the university would have on their lives and careers. Now, they're paying it forward. 🤎🤍

Jackie and Ron were the first to participate in the Rossin College Scholarship Challenge, a new dollar-for-dollar matching opportunity created by an anonymous engineering alumnus.
This match will create only eight scholarships, and spots are filling fast.

When @NASA launched Artemis II (@nasaartemis), the first lunar flyby in 50 years, Lehigh alumni were behind the controls and in leadership roles making history happen.

Swipe through to meet Mark Riddle ’87, operations engineer supporting NASA's Kennedy Space Center (@kennedyspacecenter), and Christina Mancinelli ’03 ’04, vice president of global communications and navigation at Lockheed Martin (@lockheedmartin). See how their journeys from South Mountain led them to the frontiers of human space exploration.

“[Exploration] is what makes us human, curiosity, wondering why things are the way they are,” said Terry Hart (@ihartaerospace) ’68 H’88 Pʼ27, former NASA astronaut, teaching full professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics and founder of Lehigh’s master’s in aerospace engineering program.

🤎Same Campus. Same Lehigh Spirit. Different Era.🤍

And now we’re wondering…where should we go next? 👀

How do you bring climate education to life for students across India?

This past July, Ayona Bhadury ’29 traveled to Karnataka, India, as part of Lehigh Creative Inquiry’s Global Social Impact Fellowship. Working alongside a team of Lehigh fellows and the Agastya International Foundation, Ayona worked with local teachers to help build the “Climate Change Learning Center of the Future.”

Through interactive exhibits, hands-on learning kits, and mobile science labs on bikes, the project brings climate awareness directly to students in remote communities.
