What an incredibly cool experience it was to get sworn in as a community board member at City Hall for Brooklyn’s CB2 by our very own Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso!

Getting involved with politics at the local level has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time living in NYC. It’s been so enlightening to learn how things get done in our communities and how easy it is to make an impact just by showing up.

For my first term on the community board, I’ll be serving on the Parks & Recreation subcommittee. If you know me, you know just how much I love my parks and public spaces. Guess it’s time to embrace my Leslie Knope era! by @lennycan_

When I first picked up a tennis racquet, a young Spaniard named Rafael Nadal was in the midst of making his mark on the tennis world. His tenacity, his determination, and his never-give-up spirit drew me to him. He quickly became my favorite player and sports idol.

Fast forward over 20 years, I would have never imagined I’d get to train at his flagship tennis academy in his home of Mallorca. A week to immerse myself in all things tennis. A week to learn from some of the best coaches in the world. A week to fall even more in love with the sport that has re-taken over my life. And meeting and training with so many incredible people from around the world was just the cherry on top.

I can’t even begin to put in words how magical this experience was. Thanks to everyone who made this week so special. I can’t wait to go back!

Come one, come all to an incredible opportunity to learn about the fight for tenant rights here in our backyard of NYC. I’m beyond excited to host a movie screening of @slumlordmillionairefilm plus a Q&A with some of the film’s production crew and representatives from the very community fighting for tenant rights across Chinatown, @caaavnyc! This event will be a fundraiser to help benefit and celebrate 40 years of CAAAV fighting for our communities here in NYC!

We’ll also be partnering alongside a number of incredible local AAPI communities and brands to help supply small bites for our attendees.

Thank you to…
@thekitsby for hosting us in your incredible Chinatown space!
@chenziofficial for providing your incredible Fuzhou-style potato balls!
@potluckasianam for helping promote and providing chasiu bao from some local Chinatown bakeries!
@ninetreasurescreamery for providing ice cream scoops!
@cakesbylexi for providing a secret cookie treat 🤫😍!
Plus some more vendors to be named!

Special shoutout to @sustainabitchery for designing this incredible poster!

Tomorrow night I'm throwing a birthday fundraiser and I couldn't do it without my incredible co-hosts: @len3689, who has stood by Yuh-Line since the hardest days of 2021, and former neighbor and Prospect Heights' very own @veronicanotvictoria of @vermilionmahjong, who returns to the block to helm the mahjong table! Join us June 9 at 6pm at my house.

RSVP at https://bit.ly/artbirthday!
[Donate what you can in the "Additional Contribution" field.]

Special guest appearance by Brad Lander! Gather on my front stoop to give Brad a warm welcome!

I'm donating my birthday party as a fundraiser for my dear friend Yuh-Line Niou, who I'm supporting for NY Senate to be a counterweight to the Governor. I'm personally outraged that when the wealthy New Yorkers get an annual $12 billion tax cut, our Governor can't find less than $2 billion to completely fund Medicaid and SNAP. It's like saying to your three kids, one of you can have food, one can have health, and the third, well good luck to you.

Donate what you can. Hope to see you tomorrow! RSVP at https://bit.ly/artbirthday by @lennycan_

I met Yuh-Line back in 2021. It during the time where Chinatown was met with the after effects of COVID and the Asian Hate crime spree. In those rough times, I saw in her a public servant who represented so many things that I thought were missing in elected office. A young, female, Asian representative who walked the walk (and also talked the talk).

I’ve seen her go on a multi-week hunger strike to fight for taxi drivers to have their mounting debts decreased.

I’ve seen her provide endless PPE supplies to working class communities during COVID.

I’ve seen her fight for the dignity and rights for so many marginalized communities to ensure they can live a healthy, joyful, and prosperous life.

In 2022, I had the honor of a lifetime to work for her as she ran for Congress. Though she didn’t win, she proved that a grassroots, people powered campaign can inspire hope across so many communities.

And now, in 2026, she’s running again to fight that same fight. This time, for NY state senate in the heart of our immigrant and working class neighborhoods in lower Manhattan and Chinatown.

I’m honored to call her my friend, and I’m honored to do my part again to help her win by cohosting a fundraiser on June 9th with the incredible @achangnyc and @veronicanotvictoria.

Come meet Yuh-Line and see firsthand what inspired me to get involved in local politics in the first place. We’ll have snacks, drinks, and some mahjong tables set up courtesy of @vermilionmahjong.

Link in bio to RSVP! Location (in Park Slope) will be provided after you register.

Super excited to officially announce I’m running for an elected position in NYC! A hyper-local NY state position called County Committee, focused on engaging and organizing your neighbors!

I moved to Fort Greene about 6 years ago now. In that time, I’ve fully fallen in love with this neighborhood. Our lovely public spaces like Fort Greene Park, the welcoming community here, the quaint little cafes and shops. All of it makes me want to continue deepening my connection here and continue to make Fort Greene the incredible neighborhood that I see it as.

First things first — I need to get on the ballot! So I’m hosting a little event I’m calling Dumplings & Democracy. I’d love for you to come help me gather signatures for my petition. In return, I’ll treat you to some homemade dumplings! RSVP is in my bio.

Here’s to deepening my connection to this incredible neighborhood and community. Here’s to proving that civic engagement can be fun. Here’s to showcasing the idea that caring about the people around you is cool.

As with anyone running for office, it can’t be done alone. Shoutout to the following people and orgs who have helped and continue to help me along the way!

There’s no easy way to say this.

My family’s house in Pittsburgh burnt down over Christmas break. The good news is that everyone is okay — grandma, aunt, and uncle are all safe. The bad news is that the house is toast.

This is the house where I spent the last 15 years of holiday breaks, family’s birthdays, and random trips to Pittsburgh.
This is the house where my aunt taught me how to cook all of our favorite childhood meals.
This is the house where I first met both of my baby nephews and watched them grow up.
This is the house where we raised three of our incredible family pups.
This is the house where I played countless hours of mahjong with my grandma.

All gone. In the span of one morning.

Over the final few days of 2025, we started the long process of working with our insurance company, moving my family to a temporary transition home, and figuring out how to repair and restore the home.

I started a GoFundMe (link in bio) to help my family into a more comfortable adjustment during this transition while we wait for the year-long process to draw out. From the current temporary hotel stay to our long-term temporary rental, we’ll use these funds to get my family back on their feet as best we can — whether it’s with clothes, medical & accessibility needs for my grandma, replacement electronics, or just buying some things to give my family a bit of joy and control back in their lives. Yes — luckily, we do have insurance, but these funds will provide my family a bit more ease of mind throughout this whole ordeal.

The photos in this carousel are to remind me just how many wonderful memories we shared in this house, and how many more we have to make once we get my family through this whole situation and back in the house.

Sorry if I’m a bit delayed in responding in the coming weeks and months, but thank you all so much in advance for everything. by @lennycan_

🀄️ Mahjong is hot, and also quite popular with our followers. In November we featured the monthly Mahjong lessons at @lelandbrooklyn and learned how to play from master.
