TIFF MARKET 2026 — RECAP

Guyana made its first official presence at the TIFF Market, connecting with global film leaders, building new relationships, and exploring opportunities for collaboration, co-productions, training, and investment.

A first step toward building Guyana’s film industry and taking our stories to the world. taken in Metro Toronto Convention Centre by @lenz.films

Being part of Guyana’s delegation at the TIFF MARKET was about much more than attending one of the world’s leading film events. It was an opportunity to represent our country, build meaningful international relationships, learn from an established global industry, and begin important conversations about what the future of film could look like in Guyana.

I’m grateful to the Government of Guyana and His Excellency President Irfaan Ali for supporting Guyana’s growing presence on the international stage.

My sincere appreciation to the Honourable Charles Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport; Ms. Tamika Boatswain, Director of Culture; and Mr. Ruel Johnson, for the opportunity, the conversations, and the shared commitment to exploring what is possible for Guyana’s creative sector.

Thank you as well to the Guyana Film Association and to every member of our delegation. We came from different backgrounds and experiences, but we represented one country and shared one important opportunity, to introduce more of the world to Guyana.

For me, one of the greatest takeaways from TIFF was seeing just how much potential exists at home. Our stories, culture, landscapes and people are uniquely Guyanese, and there is an opportunity to transform those assets into a sustainable industry that develops talent and creates opportunities for the next generation.

The relationships have started. The conversations have started.

Now comes the work of turning those conversations into something meaningful for Guyana. 🇬🇾 taken in Metro Toronto Convention Centre by @lenz.films

A repost: Spotlighting our very own @adrianwalters_ We are so proud of his work and to see the film travel and make an impact.

🏆 BUFF Awards 2026 | Best Actor 🏆 Congratulations to Adrian Walters @adrianwalters_ , winner of Best Actor at the 2026 British Urban Film Festival Awards for his commanding performance in It Comes in Waves

@itcomesinwavesfilm , also our Best Feature winner and recipient of The Victor Adebodun Award, making this a landmark night for the film in BUFF’s 21st year.

Adrian delivered a performance of depth, restraint and undeniable power, the kind of work that anchors a film and pulls audiences completely into its emotional current. Layered, magnetic and deeply felt, his portrayal is a reminder that great acting is not simply seen, it is experienced.

To lead a feature of this calibre and deliver an award winning performance speaks to craft, discipline and extraordinary screen presence.

At BUFF, we honour artists whose performances stay with us long after the credits roll. Adrian Walters has done exactly that.

A richly deserved win and a brilliant moment in what was clearly an exceptional evening for It Comes in Waves ✨🎬🏆🖤
