Kitchen featured online in @houseandgardenuk for this year's @designcentrech Wow House. Working with the incredible @lopenjoinery who made all of the joinery to such high quality. The @benpentreathstudio team of @rupertcunningham @alice.aj.montgomery & myself have been working on designing the space for many months and it was fun to see it all come together alarming quickly last week. Thanks to all of our suppliers who have been so generous in lending us art, ceramics and the bits and pieces that make the space feel so 'real'. Special thanks to @mbmcstudios who applied a lime wash effect finish to the walls and specialist finishes to other joinery pieces.

A sketch created by the very talented @lukastheillustrator for the space we are in the process of creating in collaboration with @lopenjoinery for this year's Wow House @designcentrech.

I have worked on the decoration whilst @rupertcunningham and @alice.aj.montgomery have designed the beautiful joinery and architecture. The detailing is inspired by the back of house Regency Gothic cabinetry found behind the baize doors of the country houses we are lucky enough to have worked on in the @benpentreathstudio.

The mid - late 19th century is a period of design I find particularly inspiring and refines many of the gothic tropes popularised in the Regency period. I can often find my self totally immersed in a good auction catalogue ( @lyonandturnbull ) featuring items of the period. It's not to everyone's taste and the furniture design can be totally outrageous but I think many love the pieces on their own but might be hesitant to incorporate them into a room scheme. I hope our space shows how these designs can be made 'liveable' and their character embraced.

So many of our favourite suppliers have been so generous with lending their products to use and it's such a joy to bring so many talented designers and makers together into a public space.

The show opens in less than a month and tickets can be purchased in the below link.

This was a fun one! Initial ideas for this kitchen centred around the wonderful clients’ brief of creating a ‘laboratory’ for cooking. References were drawn from 1930’s back of house scullerys and 50’s & 60’s Americana tinged domestic kitchens, amongst others, attempting to combine the clinical and the cosy. Two key references were the kitchens in Robert Mallet-Steven’s Villa Cavrois and Lina Bo Bardi’s Casa de Vidro. The Kitchen was refurbished in isolation meaning we could really focus on design and detailing without having to worry about the other rooms. Ice box hinges and 16 different types of tile were supplied by @sarah_balineum with the main decorative panels inspired by an art nouveau fireplace tile. Work for @benpentreathstudio with @meghudsonstudio & @ja.rennie. Island by @alpesinox with custom @pyrolaveuk top. Joinery by @lethbridge_lines_joinery and building work by @lethbridgelondonltd. The Drawing Room at a very special project in Cornwall. A long standing project in the @benpentreathstudio which I have worked on for 5 years now. The slow refurbishment of a Jacobean Castle. More info in article @archdigest. We have tackled the decoration room by room so whilst this room is finished work is very much ongoing in other areas! It’s always my favourite project to visit with @pwdeane as the property has such a unique energy. taken in Cornwall by @leokary1

Exciting to see a coffee table I designed using mottled tiles from @sarah_balineum published in @archdigest . The room, inspired by interiors of the 1970s, is part of a long running project restoring and decorating a 17th century Cornish castle.
