I’m saddened to say that on the morning of Friday June 26, my beloved mother, Chesna J Brown, peacefully took her final breath on this earthly realm and transitioned to The Great Beyond.
• • •
To know my mom was to love her. She was fiercely passionate (especially about her children), beautifully intelligent, goofy beyond reason and radiantly stunning. I am confident in saying that not only do I get my attitude and charm from her, but also a wealth of worldly knowledge. She taught me compassion, determination/drive and to stick up for myself and others for what is just and fair. Lowkey I get my good looks from her too but I can’t not give some credit to my dad for that as well. Truly their love child.
• • •
It breaks my heart knowing that I won’t get a call/text from her again. We won’t be able to hug and squeeze or sit and watch movies or gossip. The manner in which she left this world was unfair and in too short a time for my liking. I do have some comfort in knowing that she no longer has pain and can’t be riddled of the worries of this floating rock but is instead happily reunited with her mom, my Grams. Through the good and the bad she would always remind me that she was in my corner and that I was and will always be, her first heartbeat.

I love you to the moon and beyond, Momma Love. I hope that we continue to make you proud forever and always.

A big THANK YOU to our friends who helped us reach our initial $1,500 goal to get the Medea project started. Here’s a sneak peek at some concept work we did in September.

Choreography/Direction by Leon Glover
Medea - Tope Emiola
Greek Chorus - MJ Abdul, Aya Esther Hayashi, Christine Klayman, and Lora Strum
Song: “I See Red” by Everybody Loves an Outlaw

Our crowdfunding campaign will remain open through the end of the year, and all proceeds will go towards creating new numbers for this show. Thank you again, and more soon!

34 was a TIME, okay?! Though it came with its many challenges and disappointments, this past year was ultimately full of joy. I found joy with my handsome/goofy boyfriend, my beautifully talented friends and my artistry/craft.
•
This year I got to take my first trip with MP, direct/choreograph 2 shows + an award winning choir, quit a soul sucking job, get my best friend married, watch many people fall in love with dance, solo travel and so much more.
•
I’m so thankful to all those who inspire me and have brought me joy throughout this dance around the cosmos. You mean so much to me and make my little gay heart flutter. Cheers to 35! 🫶🏾♥️

Cheers to the man who met me at a cute neighborhood bar last year and made me swoon immediately. It’s been such a delight having you by my side making me giggle, think (and think) and take the time to just be. From the belly laughs to the fun adventures around the city and beyond, it’s been great growing and loving you. To many, many more. 🥰
