showing you how to install fireman clasps. it’s actually super easy and quick!

-mark the three placement points with an erasable fabric pen.
-reinforce the fabric from the wrong side with fusible interfacing and press well. this helps prevent the fabric from tearing around the rivets.
-use a leather hole punch to make a small hole at each mark. you can carefully use scissors as an alternative, but make sure the holes are only just big enough for the rivets to pass through.
-insert the rivets through the holes and attach the clasps, making sure all the parts are aligned correctly.
-secure the rivets with a hammer or the appropriate setting tool, or use rivet-setting pliers if your hardware is compatible

make sure to hammer the rivets firmly into place or compress them properly with pliers, otherwise they can pull out quite easily. i’m even considering replacing mine with book screws for an even stronger hold

the pattern is my alex jacket, which works so well with this thick denim wool blend twill. it’s beginner-friendly, comes with a step-by-step video tutorial and is quite quick to sew since the funnel neck is part of the main front piece, so you don’t need any extra collar pieces

another version of the Alex Jacket, this time with a few more details and a slightly different look

I’ve also expanded the size range by three additional sizes, so the pattern now comes in even more sizes!

for this version, I added a belt, belt loops and sleeve tabs, and replaced the original patch pockets with welt pockets. both are really easy additions if you want to customize your own jacket. you can also easily customize the height of the funnel neck

the only thing I’d change next time is placing the pockets a little lower so they don’t sit at the same height as the belt

I used a cotton blend twill for this version, similar to a heavy denim, which works really well

always find it so interesting to see how different the same sewing pattern can look depending on the fabric and little design details

the sewing pattern comes with a step by step video tutorial, making it beginner-friendly even if you’re new to sewing jackets

comment “ALEX” and I’ll send you the link to purchase the pattern by @leonieay_

your sign to sew your own summer wardrobe

creating your own clothes can feel intimidating at first, but it is often much easier than it looks. with the right sewing pattern and clear guidance, you can create pieces that you will actually love wearing.

for this look, I used my Neo top and Kaja pants sewing patterns. both patterns are designed for confident beginners and come with a detailed illustrated sewing manual and step by step video tutorial to guide you through the process.

if you have been wanting to start sewing your own clothes, these are great summer sewing projects to begin with.

another Hanni dress!

I wanted to experiment and see if the sewing pattern could be made reversible, because I honestly couldn’t decide which side of the fabric I liked better

and it actually worked really well!

on the cream side, you can see the darts, but I don’t mind that at all. I used french seams at the shoulders, waist seam and center back so there’s no visible overlocking on either side

instead of using bias binding, I also folded the fabric twice towards the inside and pressed it really well along the edges. it was a little tricky, but worked surprisingly well. so technically, you can even sew the Hanni without bias binding, just be prepared to do a LOT of pressing.

I wanted to try a different fabric this time, so I used this beautiful jacquard gobelin fabric that’s actually meant for upholstery. it feels really nice on the skin though, and after washing it got even softer

which side do you prefer? :) by @leonieay_

getting ready for autumn and already thinking about all the jackets, pants and pieces I want to sew next

I always get so excited about sewing for the colder months because there are so many more fabrics to play with. I love using wool and heavier cottons, and lately i’ve been really into jacquard, brocade and bouclé.

so here’s a little autumn & winter sewing inspo from my pattern collection. I’m also working on some new patterns at the moment, so there’s more coming soon 🤍

comment “pattern” and I’ll send you the direct link to all my patterns

I’ve been wanting to make this version of the Alex Jacket for a while and I love how it turned out

I showed you a few different button options in my stories and most of you chose the fireman clasp, so I decided to go with that one

comment “ALEX“ and I’ll send you the link to the sewing pattern

for this version, I made a few simple changes to the original pattern: I added a belt and arm cuffs and used a fireman clasp instead of the regular buttons

I love how easy it is to change little details like these and make the pattern feel completely different

the Alex Jacket is sewing beginner friendly and comes with a step by step video tutorial, so it’s a really good one if you’re still getting into sewing jackets by @leonieay_
