Leopard Trails Yala – new and improved for deeper connection.
Unlike large lodges that can sometimes dilute the sense of place, Leopard Trails Yala offers a more intimate safari experience.
In our small camp setting, every moment feels personal — guides gather with guests by the fire, stories unfold beneath starlit skies, and meaningful connections are at the heart of it all.
It’s a safari style crafted for those who treasure authenticity and connection over size and scale.

~ Nuptial Flights ~

The end of the dry zone is marked by heavy monsoon rains, giving life to the fading greens and cracking ground, but at the same time, it marks a pivotal point in many insects life.
The Nuptial Flight happens with thousands of termites taking flight towards light, giving them hopes of mating and new colonies, a chance for them to become a King and a Queen.
Today, the moment we notice it the most, is when these insects in their thousands, swarm our lights, meeting an untimely death in what they think is safety.

Sometimes it’s not just about what you see — it’s about how the whole experience makes you feel. Our recent guests shared these beautiful moments from their time with us.

It was a pleasure having you with us, and we’re so happy these are memories you’ll carry home.

Until the next adventure… 🐾

~ Mating rituals ~

As difficult as it is to see a leopard, seeing two, and on top of that, them mating is a treat in itself.
On a beautiful May afternoon, Neluma and Cleo decided to show us exactly that.
Watch the intricacies of the mating process, as Cleo shows us her 'Lordosis' behavior as she purrs and puts her tail in Neluma's face, and an understandably tired Neluma, mounting her, as short-lived as it might have been, and an explosion of sounds and power as he leaps away from her claws.
Why I say an understandably tired Neluma, is because they would mate several times an hour, over the course of a week or more, clocking in about a total of 100 to 200 rounds in total, as all big cats have relatively weak sperm, so what they lack for in quality, they make up for in quantity.

Before the leopard, there are the clues.

Tracks. Signs. Movement. Behaviour.
And a guide who knows how to read them.

Here, @malmijayaweera is doing what great guiding demands, reading the landscape and bringing the guests into the process.

At Leopard Trails, we take guiding seriously. Because our job isn't simply to find wildlife. It's to help our guests understand the wilderness unfolding around them.

The sighting is the moment.
The guiding is everything that leads to it.

The forest went silent. Then, from the shadows, she appeared. What happened next left us completely speechless.

A raw and unforgettable moment from the wild.

Watch until the end.

Morning coffee view level: Unmatched. ☕🌅

There's a quiet magic in the pre-dawn light at Leopard Trails Yala. The gentle glow on the lake, the stillness of the reeds, and the raw orchestra of the Sri Lankan jungle coming alive.

At our Wilpattu Camp, guide Amal (@ramesh_amal_raj) proudly celebrated with his newly certified Junior Rangers, while at our Yala Camp, guide Pali (@pali_tennekoon) did the same with his young wildlife enthusiasts.

Across both camps, these young explorers embraced the spirit of conservation, curiosity, and respect for the wild. Congratulations to all our Junior Rangers—you are the future guardians of the incredible wildlife.
