Head to the Netherlands in October for an unforgettable stargazing escape, when the longer, darker nights make it an excellent time to explore some of the country’s finest dark-sky locations.

The Netherlands has two officially recognised International Dark Sky Parks: De Boschplaat on Terschelling, a vast, remote nature reserve where the Milky Way can stretch dramatically across the sky, and Nationaal Park Lauwersmeer, on the Friesland–Groningen border, where protected darkness, dedicated stargazing platforms and exceptionally low light pollution create superb conditions for observing the stars.

Small in size but big on atmosphere, Luxembourg City is ideal for a 48-hour escape.

Its UNESCO-listed old town, dramatic valleys, historic fortifications and smart cafés and restaurants are all packed into a surprisingly walkable centre.

Day 1: Start in the historic Ville Haute, exploring Place d’Armes, the
Grand Ducal Palace and Notre-Dame Cathedral before heading
underground into the Bock Casemates.

A quick stop for lunch, then walk the Chemin de la Corniche for views over the city
before heading down into the atmospheric Grund for dinner.

Take your time to appreciate the city views with a rooftop cocktail at
