Sick of starting over? Lost in the gym? Brain frazzled from all the conflicting diet advice you've heard over the years?

The best thing to do if you’re feeling stuck is to take some action - no matter how small - and here’s four options that are completely free to pick from.

All will give you a quick win, and get you started towards feeling happier, healthier, and more confident. by @lesterkitching

Feel judged for gaining weight, then judged for every failed attempt, and then judged for how you lose it?

I don’t know about you but for me, whatever I do, there’s always self-doubt, or a fear of being judged by others.

So decide what you want to do and do it anyway. Because that’s almost certainly easier than trying to rewire your brain, or becoming someone completely immune to criticism.

If you want to get up at 5am to get your workout in, screw the opinion that says you’re obsessed.

If you want to track your calories, screw the opinion that says that’s not healthy.

If you want to stay exactly where you are, because you are genuinely happy, screw the opinion that says you’re not good enough as you are right now. by @lesterkitching

$Huge Reasons Parents In Their 40s Gain Weight When your kids were toddlers, you were constantly moving. Chasing them around, picking them up, running after them - none of it felt like exercise but it all counted. Now they’re older. They come home from school, go straight to their room or straight out with their friends, and they don’t really need you in the same way. Which means your evenings look very different. You’re at home because you can’t leave them, but they don’t need you anywhere near as much. So you’re on the sofa, half watching Netflix, scrolling TikTok, and with very easy access to food that’s been designed to be as tasty and easy to eat as possible. Three hours pass. You’ve barely moved. You’ve eaten more than you planned. Do that most evenings and combine it with a desk job where you’re getting a fraction of the steps you used to - and there’s your “broken metabolism”. You’re moving significantly less than you were ten years ago and eating more calories than you realise, usually in those quiet evening hours when the kids have disappeared and the boredom sets in. Harsh Reality Of Exercise As You Get Older

In your early 20’s you could smash a tough gym session, pick up a niggle, sleep on it, and wake up completely fine. That doesn’t happen in your 40s and beyond.

Recovery takes longer. Old injuries that seemed fixed have a habit of coming back. The things you could get away with at 22 catch up with you, and pushing through the same way you used to isn’t smart.

But that doesn’t mean it’s game over. It means you need a smarter strategy than the average person who hasn’t got those same considerations.

The instinct when something flares up is to stop working that area entirely.

Got a bad knee? Then avoid squats, lunges, leg press, deadlifts, and wait until it settles down.

That’s understandable and in the short term, the knee pain goes away. But sitting it out means the muscles around that joint get weaker and more fragile is what happens in the long term.

Training around an injury, progressing more gradually, and building a programme that accounts for the fact that your body is different now than it was twenty years ago - that’s how you stay in the game long term rather than constantly stopping and starting every time something flares up.

Far More Important Than The Scales

Losing weight might be the goal that gets you started, but a life-changing result is how much better you feel just moving through your normal day.

Less stiffness. Less aching. Being able to play with the kids without feeling like you need a day to recover. Doing the activities you enjoy without worrying an old injury is about to flare up.

That’s a better quality of life. And the more you move, the more you can move, and the more you’re actually present and enjoying the things that matter rather than sitting them out.

The scales are one measure of progress - of course. But how you feel in your body every day is another very important one too.

I promise that no matter how unfit you are, you can get through that first session.

And if a PT is taking you to the point of passing out or throwing up, they suck at coaching. by @lesterkitching
