My intention for Burning Man this year was to honor my true nature — playfulness, adventure, and exploration — and to deepen my relationship with the Earth and with others.

It delivered, both magically and through the beautiful chaos that only the rise and fall of a temporary city built on beauty and love could provide. 🔥🏜️✨

And on night one, the playa named me Goldenlochs. ✨

Huge love to Atlantis — quite possibly one of the best-run camps on the playa — and yay for Stanford business school for bringing this beautiful crew together. 🫶🏽

Happy 7th birthday to the kid who’s always got jokes and is already plotting his path to becoming a professional soccer player—or a professional soccer player doctor. 😂⚽️

You light up our world and somehow live in an entirely different speed dimension. Thank you for keeping us entertained with your smile as big as the sun, your constant money-for-chores negotiations, and endless math riddles.

Ten years ago, I was given one extraordinary little girl.

Millie, you are one of the most remarkable people I know. You have a beautiful moral compass, a kind heart, and a determination that shines through in everything you do. You don’t just dream; you put in the work. Whether it’s fashion, school, creativity, or a new challenge, you give it your whole heart. And yes, you’re still my favorite stylist and, in my completely unbiased opinion, a future breakout fashion designer. 😉

What amazes me most isn’t just what you accomplish, it’s who you are.

Whenever I dream bigger or begin a new adventure, you’re the first to say, “You gotta do it, Mama. You gotta do it.” You’ll even remind Elijah, “Mommy needs to focus so she can make it happen.”

Long before you realized it, you became one of my greatest encouragers. Thank you for believing in me and reminding me to be brave. I hope you always know I’ll spend the rest of my life doing the same for you.

I cannot wait to watch the dreams you’ll chase and the incredible woman you’re becoming. I know God has amazing plans for your life, and I feel so blessed to have a front-row seat.

Happy 10th Birthday, sweet girl. There is no one else quite like you.

That’s a wrap on a school year of bicoastal weekend trips between SF — kids, community, and the incredible women who opened their homes to us (you know exactly who you are) — and Maui, for middle & high school teaching practice and certification.

What seemed at first like an impossibly intense way to do 50/50 somehow became this beautiful experience in learning that maybe it is possible to have it all or at least some beautiful version of it.

Mother’s Day 2024 was the first time it was formally just the three of us.

I remember feeling scared about what these days would become. Whether they would feel lonely, heavy, incomplete… and honestly just grieving the version of motherhood and family life I thought I would have.

And somewhere along the way I decided:
we were going to build our own traditions.
The kind we actually love.

This year we went safari glamping. Very limited screens. Nature sounds. Zebras crossing in front of our truck. An ostrich stealing my purse. Campfires. Cozy blankets. Spider-Man pajamas. Coffee with mountain views.

One unexpected gift of planning Mother’s Day myself?
First of all… it’s Mother’s Weekend now. Respectfully ✌🏽😂

But truly, I get to plan months ahead. I get to choose something all three of us genuinely enjoy. And apparently… my kids now want to glamp (and eventually camp) every Mother’s Day 😭🤍

To the mothers — especially the single moms, rebuilding moms, figuring-it-out moms:
you are allowed to create beautiful things on purpose.
You are allowed to stop waiting for joy and start designing it.
