Lovely day at the Forest of Dean , Beechenhurst . We haven’t been there for over two years so nice to go for a walk and wander in the woods . We did the sculpture trail with the husband which was over 8 kilometres so needless to say the steps were smashed . Also if you go with children , they have a new children’s trail this time based on the famous Julia Donaldson book “Room on the Broom” . Have included some photos from that walk too. Also it’s so much more bearable the heat in the forest . by @letslearnmama

Last week for homeschool trips and workshops for us . We went to our nearest wetland centre with a few friends . Haven’t been to Slimbridge for over two years and it’s always so lovely l visiting this gem . On top of this they have a 60% reduced rate if you home educate and go during term time . Weather was fab and the kids also had a play in their water park area . #homeschool#homeschooling #homeschooladventures by @letslearnmama

Lovely homeschool event at one of the attractions here in my city today - the famous SS Great Britain ship . We have been busy with gcse exams prep and mocks and all sorts of things and have to say my younger children have been a bit neglected the last few months because I have had to help my older son who is starting his gcse journey too . Apologies for not being much online , sharing homeschool content and reviewing less books . It’s been quite a lot this year with eldest starting her sixth form , having been homeschooled for 16 years , adjusting to it , being a taxi and all that shenanigans that comes with being a homeschool parent . Also there has been no gcse break here as my son is 15 and he is doing his first gcse this week( Duas appreciated ) . So it’s been one thing after another . And as much as I would have loved to be more present on here , instagram has had to take a back seat naturally . Thank you for all your lovely messages that I have received throughout this year . I am still here juts a bit less active that’s all and apologies if I haven’t replied to some of the messages . ❤️❤️❤️ by @letslearnmama

Wanted to share this words of wisdom from another homeschooling group as it’s very relevant for anyone whose child is sitting their gcse exams . Hope you find it useful :
Every year, there are lots of children upset and parents worrying because their children have come out of the exam saying it was much harder than the past papers they’ve done, or that something was in the exam that wasn’t on the spec, or that the questions were weird etc. Please be reassured that much of this really is usually simply because sitting the exam is and feels different to sitting past papers – the pressure, exam situation, stress are completely different.

IF the paper is much harder than previous papers then this will be taken into account when exam boards are deciding on grade boundaries – so do remind your child (and yourself!) of that as it can be very reassuring.

When it appears content is on the exam that the child wasn’t expecting it is almost always because that subject has applied questions.

Equally other parents can then worry that their child has said the exam paper went fine or was easy when others are saying how difficult that paper was! Again this is perfectly fine too. Often it is to do with different perspectives or expectations of what the exam will be like. A paper will often seem better if a child was expecting it to be really difficult and of course different papers will suit different children better than others due to different preferred topics and depending on what they focused last minute revision on too.

The key thing is to reassure your child that they did their best, that grade boundaries will reflect a difficult paper, and that they also have another paper (in many cases) to help boost marks. Exams are not the be all and end all – so have a treat or something fun to do with them to take their (and your) mind off any “bad” exam papers. by @letslearnmama

Let’s visit The Three Sacred mosque pop up collection set contains three fantastic educational books that will introduce young children to the three holiest mosques for Muslims. - Masjid Al Haram, Masjid Al- Nabawi and Masjid Al Aqsa in Jerusalem. I absolutely love that the main character is the adorable and super cute cat Huraira who takes us on a delightful journey of visiting those three incredible mosques and telling us interesting facts about them ( very age appropriate too ) . Absolutely love the colourful and vibrant illustrations done by the talented Ali Lodge - they genuinely transport you into those places and bring the stories to life .

At the end of each book , there are pages that Contain a few facts about the various mosque as well as a quiz page . The books are aimed for children ages 3 plus however my 8 year old daughter absolutely loved reading them too and enjoyed the surprise pop up scenes that each book contains . Last but not least , the quality of the books is amazing , hardback , sturdy and just very well presented . With Eid just around the corner , they will truly make a great gift .

I had the absolute privilege of attending a lovely ceremony today at Thornbury giving awards to youngsters who have done their bronze / silver and gold awards for Duke of Edinburgh . I always knew about Dofe but wasn’t sure if homeschool children are allowed to do it as I know usually they do it via schools . So a few years ago I found out that a local centre allows homeschool children to do their Dofe there . It’s run by volunteers and it’s actually even cheaper than schools . Sometimes schools can charge absolutely extortionate prices . Eldest did her bronze and silver award with them and is now onto Gold and my eldest son so finished his bronze award and is currently doing silver . They have had an absolute blast doing DOfe , meeting new people , hiking and camping and of course doing the other sections that are part of Dofe - sports , learning new skills and volunteering . Their certificates were given by the mayor of Thornbury , a lovely Scottish lady who said something tonight that really resonated with me - we don’t celebrate enough the youth and what they achieve ; we more often than not as a nation scold or expect too much from them that we forget t celebrate them as individuals and all their incredible achievements . All in all a lovely evening and needless to say extremely proud of my eldest two for working so hard and achieving these great awards . Anyone else’s young adult doing DOfe ? by @letslearnmama

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I have been on a reading marathon lately . Another fantastic read - again picked from my local library . Not sure if my library has extra funding ( highly doubt it ) but they have had so many nice and interesting titles lately .

Anyway here is my review of this great read - Tech-Smart Parenting is one of the most practical and empowering books I’ve read on raising kids in today’s tech-driven world. no doom-and-gloom warnings, it gives parents a clear, balanced roadmap for helping children develop a healthy relationship with technology.

The author combines research, real-world examples, and easy-to-apply strategies to cover everything from screen time and social media to online safety and digital wellbeing. What I love most is that it doesn’t preach — it meets parents where they are, acknowledging the challenges while offering realistic solutions.

Chapters that I really enjoyed - fostering open conversations and teaching kids digital responsibility really stood out. This isn’t just about limiting devices — it’s about raising confident , and tech-savvy children who can thrive both online and offline.

Another great read from the library :
“ A 2015 study in the USA found that 34% of 5 year old girls are on a diet and Almost half half of the children studied wanted to be thinner” ; The good childhood report in 2020 found a significant increase in the proportion of boys unhappy with their appearance and the report stated that one in 12 boys feels miserable about the way he looks “ .

I thoroughly enjoyed reading “ Body Happy Kids - how to help children and teens love the skin they are in “ by Molly Forbes

The author , mum of two girls , wrote this practical guide in which she candidly shares her own experience with a range of experts to provide parents with the tools to raise resilient children and teens who love the skin they are in .

There are so many interesting issues that Forbes addresses in her book-positive body image and why it matters, diet culture , the damage it does on our children and how to cancel it , how to talk to children about their bodies and how to raise happy eaters. I also loved reading the chapter on the impact of toys and kids’s body image .

The book is filled with data, recommendations/resources, and activities to try with your children. This book enables us and our children to understand that health comes in all different body shapes and sizes. It provides support on developing media literacy and learning how to spot and reject diet culture. It’s really super insightful and informative.

It’s honestly a very well researched book and I definitely recommend it .

Genuinely honoured to be sent this lovely “My first Quran colour and sticker book “ from the lovely Anjum @teachingtwolittlekids

Masha Allah I have lost count of rhe amazing resources that she has created throughout the years - her main goal connecting children to the Quran in meaningful ways , making it fun , engaging and child friendly . Honestly and I say it without exaggeration here , whatever she creates masha Allah , her love and sincerity in her mission shines through her products . May Allah swt reward you abundantly for everything that you do and love seeing your success .

As for her latest book- please go to @teachingtwolittlekids page and join her Mailing list. The book is fun ,colourful engaging ! It brings the last 19 Surahs of Juz Amma to life through age-appropriate tacos themes. There are stickers - I mean which child doesn’t like it and as my youngest said yesterday when she saw me taking a few videos of her colouring , she turned to me and said “ mum , make sure you tell your friends to get this book because their children would really like it !”

Yep Taliyah will definitely do because on here we are all about supporting Muslim owned businesses that serve the communities in such beautiful ways . by @letslearnmama
