POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The season has officially begun!

The hall at @artworkersguild was packed, and anticipation was high as Richard Ardagh took the stage for the first lecture in our series. And wow, did he deliver! A huge thank you to @richardardagh for sharing his knowledge and insights with us. Richard recounted the fascinating story of London's extraordinary Type Archive and the discoveries documented in his recently published book, Type Archived.

Special thanks also to Riccardo de Franceschi @riccardo.de.franceschi for his excellent introduction to the evening's speaker.

After the lecture, many took the opportunity to secure a copy of Richard's book, while enjoying refreshments and good conversation in the hall. The lecture evenings are great for meeting up with colleagues and friends and of course making new acquaintances.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you all again in November for our next lecture!

And, thank you @vera.evstafieva and @nickcookegtype for taking photos

We’re back! Our first event of the season is:

Type Archived: Inside London’s extraordinary Type Archive

Join us for an evening with Richard Ardagh as he takes us on a visual journey through one of the world’s most remarkable collections of typographic history.

For decades, London’s Type Archive preserved an extraordinary collection of punches, matrices, drawings, patterns and machinery charting centuries of type-making. Following its closure in 2023, the collection was dispersed – making Richard’s record of the Archive and its treasures all the more valuable.

Richard will explore the history of the collection, the people and processes behind it, and the extraordinary objects that tell the story of type before the digital age.

📅 Wednesday 14th October
📍 The Art Workers’ Guild, Central London
🎟 Tickets on Eventbrite (see profile link)

Where do you read Forum? ✈️🚁🛸

Artist Julia Vance @juliavance1 has brought her accordion with her on holiday and what better way to read Forum than to read while playing music 🎵 🎶 Of course we agree 💯 and sing along 🎤🎼🎶

Where are you reading your copy this summer? Share a photograph and tag @letter_exchange—we’d love to see where Forum travels next 🗞️

Edited by John Neilson, Forum offers a richly varied snapshot of the lettering world: its artists, history, ideas, books and contemporary practice.

Where do you read Forum? ✈️🚁🛸

Type Designer @jeremytankardtypography sent us this great photo of him reading "Mile High Forum" on his flight to France. He did also make a pun about reading at the mile high club (for the older, racier members) 😂😜 In any case, what better place to read Forum than on your journeys.

— Where do you read Forum journal?

— I like reading mine in my studio, in my workspace, taking a break from designing my own letters to catch up with what my @letter_exchange Letter Exchange colleagues have been reflecting on; to note which exhibitions and talks are coming up, which events have stood out over the past six months, and who the new LX full members are.
Not only reading Forum but contributing to it is a joy! — for Forum 52, coming out in September and currently being compiled, edited, and designed by John Neilson, I've written a couple of reviews—one of a talk and another of an online symposium I attended this spring and summer. I've also sent in some news about upcoming events. And I’ve been putting the finishing touches to an article (just a few little details left!).
When Forum 52 lands on my doorstep in September, I promise to take another photo. 😊 Can’t wait!

Where do you read Forum? 🌿🔤

For calligrapher and lettering artist @wunderliche_welt it’s among the flowers in her beautiful German garden. For me, it’s in the studio—surrounded, appropriately enough, by letters!

Two very different settings, but the same absorbing read. Edited by John Neilson, Forum offers a richly varied snapshot of the lettering world: its artists, history, ideas, books and contemporary practice.
