This September, the different threads developed throughout the year come together at MX through live acts, installations, talks, screenings and listening sessions, alongside new artistic productions, encounters and conversations between practitioners, theorists and the public.

The 21st edition of SIMULTAN Festival begins with a simple yet uncomfortable question: what do we lose when everything becomes perfect?
At a time when technology promises maximum resolution — clearer images, purer sounds, more efficient processes — Against Resolution proposes friction, imperfection, and unfinished thinking as legitimate critical practices.
SIMULTAN XXI — a workshop for an uncertain future.

In 2005, SIMULTAN started out of a curiosity about what was new and a desire to explore uncharted territory, where video art and sound experimentation were finding their place in an emerging local scene.
Twenty editions later, technology is no longer a novelty. It is the medium we live in. And the question has shifted: not how you use it, but how you think with it. How you remain responsive, honest, and authentic when the tools have multiplied and the answers arrive before the questions.

2026 is a year of building, connection, and dialogue. The program brings together practitioners and theorists, new co-productions, workshops for young artists, and a publication that, for the first time, maps the festival's history through the lens of its transdisciplinary concerns.
In September, these threads converge at MX – the Corneliu Mikloși Museum, a space itself in transformation.

🎬 TIME WITHIN TIME de Levente Kozma @lev.stoitol continuă și weekendul acesta, în sala mică de la Studio.

Un film experimental în care sunetul devine protagonist, iar orașul se lasă descoperit în ritmul lui, de la o oră la alta. Fără început sau final fix – doar tu și Timișoara, privită și ascultată altfel.

Metszet (Gyújts világot, fiam!) 2026

Like any other object, the theatre light is also part of the cycle of the global economy. It was produced to put a light on something, as the power putting the light on the convenient.

The open reflector, through its shape, alludes to the cross-section and internal structure of the globe. The lightbulb, in turn, consumes energy.
The electrical wire is the conduit for this energy, but also a symbolic cord between us and the planet – a cord of morality and responsibility, long and tangled.

The phrase written in the thread 'Gyújts világot, fiam!' (spoken by the film director Béla) is an exhortation addressed to the next generation, with a dual and contradictory meaning: on the one hand, to kindle the light of change toward a more conscious, responsible, and equitable world; and on the other, to set the world on fire.

Desemnând sunetul ca ghid de orientare, în ultimii 15 ani am străbătut diferite zone ale Timișoarei, din centru până în periferie – piețe, cartiere și străduțe, locuri emblematice sau abandonate – pentru a observa cu atenție și a înregistra peisaje urbane.
Un jurnal audio-vizual al situației, al surprinderii momentului, al prezenței sau absenței.

Actorul principal al filmului este sunetul. Cadrul care îl însoțește are un caracter observațional, ales din punctul de înregistrare a sunetului. Un cadru fix, ca o fotografie – un punct de vedere din acel loc în care se întâmplă ceva sau se remarcă doar un detaliu specific locului. Imaginea nu urmărește și chiar evită să surprindă sursa sunetului, lăsând privitorului libertatea de a imagina, recunoaște sau identifica proveniența acestuia.

Secvențele se succed după ora și minutul la care au fost înregistrate, fără a ține cont de anul înregistrării. În acest fel, fragmentele adunate de-a lungul anilor se contopesc într-o singură zi, de 24 de ore.
Sunt decupaje din anumite locuri și momente, spații unde am remarcat sunetul și am ales o imagine care să-l însoțească.

În cele din urmă, proiectul este un documentar de anduranță al momentului – amplu, dar fragmentat – care ne provoacă să observăm și să ascultăm activ mediul urban și ceea ce ne înconjoară.

A sonic space, bringing together sound works from a part of the artists who have performed across SIMULTAN’s past 19 editions.
A living, affective archive that celebrates the SIMULTAN community and over 200 performances presented since 2005.
