⚡️Last stretch of Against Resolution at MX. The four installations are still running through Sunday, together with two video works by Erik Bünger on loop. So if you feel like getting out and seeing something a little less predictable in Timișoara, there are still four days left.

⚡️Alex Deak’s MX / breath turns the former tram depot into a 12-channel instrument, with sound shifting as you move through the space.

⚡️ Mădălina Ciocanu’s Răsărituri în formare starts with something as ordinary as sitting around, cracking sunflower seeds, and follows the stories, memories and bits of information that travel with the gesture.

⚡️ Vlad Hodrea’s magnum apus moves through incantations, ornithomancy and disappearing forms of Romanian folk magic.

⚡️ Marginal’s Techno-natural Mutations puts technology in much less obedient situations: feeding off leftover urban energy, watching systems fail, and asking how much clarity all that machinery really gives us.

⚡️ Also on loop: Erik Bünger’s The Mime and the Ape / Nature See You — voice, language and the strange business of trying to speak for a world that doesn’t speak back in quite the same way.

The full SIMULTAN XXI program is here. Four days at MX, in the former tram depot of the Corneliu Mikloși Museum, with plenty of ways in: come for a talk, stay for a listening session, move through the installations, return after dark for the live acts. Then come back again — the extended program continues until 4 October.

The 21st edition of SIMULTAN Festival begins with a simple yet uncomfortable question: what do we lose when everything becomes perfect?
At a time when technology promises maximum resolution — clearer images, purer sounds, more efficient processes — Against Resolution proposes friction, imperfection, and unfinished thinking as legitimate critical practices.
SIMULTAN XXI — a workshop for an uncertain future.

In 2005, SIMULTAN started out of a curiosity about what was new and a desire to explore uncharted territory, where video art and sound experimentation were finding their place in an emerging local scene.
Twenty editions later, technology is no longer a novelty. It is the medium we live in. And the question has shifted: not how you use it, but how you think with it. How you remain responsive, honest, and authentic when the tools have multiplied and the answers arrive before the questions.

2026 is a year of building, connection, and dialogue. The program brings together practitioners and theorists, new co-productions, workshops for young artists, and a publication that, for the first time, maps the festival's history through the lens of its transdisciplinary concerns.
In September, these threads converge at MX – the Corneliu Mikloși Museum, a space itself in transformation.

A few frames from our last late night at MX. Nine works from Prix @arselectronica / New Animation Art moved through digital doubles, discarded AI, plastic oceans, e-waste and landscapes after collapse, before Alex Deak / @f_v_n_g_v_m took the room somewhere else entirely.

Today, there are still a few hours left of Against Resolution. From 16:00 to 23:00, the four installations and Erik Bünger’s films are open for one final day of SIMULTAN XXI.

⚡️Two days left of Against Resolution at MX. Today is a long one.

From 16:00, the four installations remain open across the former tram depot, with Erik Bünger’s video works running on loop.

At 20:00, PANIC — Prix Ars Electronica Selection brings nine works from New Animation Art / Prix Ars Electronica 2025 to the screen: digital doubles, discarded AI, plastic oceans, e-waste, collapsing cities and futures that feel a little too close.

At 21:00, @f_v_n_g_v_m takes us into the night with an experimental vinyl set moving through Xenakian structures, granular atmospheres, dungeon synth, ciné-beats and dark techno.

Ten programme days in, this is the last late night of SIMULTAN XXI / Against Resolution.

Tomorrow, 4 October, we open once more from 16:00–23:00 for the final hours of Against Resolution. Are you coming?

Saturday night ends at MX with @f_v_n_g_v_m ⚡️

From 21:00, Alex Deak moves to the turntables for an experimental vinyl set drawing on Xenakian structures, granular atmospheres, dungeon synth, nocturnal ciné-beats and dark techno. Music that shifts between abstraction and physical pressure, with the acoustics of the old tram depot very much part of the experience.

Alex has already been present throughout this edition through @linii_sonore – From Avant-Garde to Immersive and his 12-channel installation MX / breath. The vinyl set picks up that same interest in space, structure and sound from a different angle.

🎥 Tomorrow night at MX, from 20:00: one hour of animation about technologies slipping out of control, infrastructures coming apart and worlds that feel uncomfortably familiar — very close, in fact, to the questions behind Against Resolution.

PANIC — Prix Ars Electronica Selection brings nine works from Prix Ars Electronica 2025 / New Animation Art to SIMULTAN Festival, drawn together by the same sense of unease that ran through last year’s @arselectronica in Linz. The programme is part of Ars Electronica Animation Festival On Tour, showcasing some of the latest directions in experimental digital animation.

Over the course of an hour, we move from a ritualistic dinner and a motion-captured clone condemned to endless performance to a humanoid AI about to become electronic waste, plastic-choked oceans, Times Square overtaken by a mutating media monster, derelict cityscapes, mountains of e-waste and barren AI-generated landscapes after catastrophe. The first three works in the programme were awarded by the Prix Ars Electronica 2025 jury.

The opening weekend of @simultan.org Festival in Timișoara was a great opportunity to talk about what infrastructure leaves behind - from energy and noise, to uncertainty and competing versions of reality. The open lab and the Techno-natural mutations exhibition become an open space for debate and collective learning, around the way Unplugged? Symbiont No. 3 by Lorena Cocora & Alexandra Costea scavenged urban energy, or A Field Guide to Orbital Melancholy by Cezar Mocan talked about AI scavenging information to generate incompatible reconstructions of an ecological anomaly.

Thank you Simultan for the opportunity to have no clean resolution and no stable viewpoint!
