I’m Levan Kvan. Visual Artist & Motion Designer.

My creative path follows two directions.

The first is collaboration. I partner with artists and brands to expand the boundaries of their work. Rather than changing the original vision, I add a new dimension of animation—creating high-end, functional pieces for galleries and digital spaces.

The second is personal. Through photo manipulation and prints, I explore my own visual reaction to reality. It is a quiet expression of how the outer world resonates within me.

At the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself to push my work as hard as possible, so that meant I had to incorporate Instagram into my daily routine and share my work as often as I realistically could.

Creating for social media has now become part of my working day and I’ve learned to accept that.

I’m certain that there will be some artists who disagree with me, (but for me I have no other form of income or support) being an artist today also means being a content creator if you want your work to reach a wider audience. This is something I’ve struggled with at times, especially when knowing that making these reels actually takes valuable hours away from painting itself. It’s undeniably ironic that I spend so much time documenting my work instead of making it.

But perhaps it will be worth it in the end? I’m curious to see where it all leads, and maybe one day I’ll look back and think, jumping jellyfish!…it actually worked!

Instagram continues to favour reels more and more, and as someone who makes a living from static art, adapting to that feels unnatural but unavoidable. Still, I hope there’s room here for good quality work, for making things that feel true to myself, in a space that moves very quickly. Maybe this reel is also a way of finding other artists and people who feel the same way.

So, in this reel above, is a story I wrote and narrated especially for this painting, a painting I created in oils, and then was brought to life through animation by another wonderfully talented artist…and the best bit is that none of this was created with AI or ChatGPT. So you’ll have to excuse any grammatical errors, repetition or spelling mistakes. I’m only human.

I think that if artists continue supporting one another, encouraging one another, and sharing each other’s work, there will always be space for real art, as well as art for instagrams sake.

👻 I had the joy of collaborating with the insanely talented @levankvan, who took my weird little illustrations and turned them into moving art.

It’s official. My new full-length 12 track album, UNDERWATER TEMPLE, is now uploaded to CDBaby for an October 1st digital release everywhere to be followed by physical copies as well. It’s been a really incredible process and I’ve had so much fun making this album. Can’t wait to share. BIG thanks to @levankvan for bringing my painting to life with his beautiful animation skills too! This is the official album art and visual so I’m very pleased! The album is truly an amalgamation of so many influences from Bjork to Tori Amos to Nine Inch Nails to Aphex Twin and everything in between. It’s very ambient and electronic but it has a lot of organic elements as well. It’s very experimental and it’s truly the kind of album I wanted to make.
